Yeah I use a sling! and I'm good at scaring ppl on the other side of the lake with it cuz I can throw well over a quarter mile with a good rock or big marble, and you better believe it. but not at hitting anything small, so for me it's basically a toy.
Rabbit stick? to me it's just a stick but I'm not an aborigine. It works great on anything rabbit sized or smaller if you can hit them with it. fun for squirrel counting competitions :)
I made one out of old jeans and some twine. Still practicing with it but when I do it right the velocity of the stone is incredable.
i use a rabbit stick im ok could hit one that is sitting still trying to find a good one other ones have broke or been lost
i have to build one of these along with my atlatl:-P
I tried the rabbit sticks and scored a few times but seem to do better with a rock, not worth a dang with a sling but I have been playing with a bolo I made out of fishing weights, right now I am experimenting with 50# mono and baleing twine as I always have both I have gotten so I can wrap up a fence post pretty good but nothing live yet,but I reckon it's like everything else practice a lot before you give up
I've play with a rabbit stick a bit and can score now and then. I was taught there is a specific trick to the stick. Point your non throwing hand at the target as an aim point and bring the stick over your shoulder so it points at a 45 degree angle. As you throw, release the stick when your throwing hand reaches the non throwing hand. Hope that made sense. Anyway, that was the way I was taught. It does seem to improve your aim.
Slings? Nope. I always thought that was why something better was invented. I've tried it a time or two but I'm as dangerous to myself and anyone around me as I am to the target I want to hit.
It has been a wile cents I ask about slings or rabbit sticks . So I thought I would dig this one out and dust it off to see what any of the new people had to say
Went to college with a Zulu guy from South Africa back in the 70s. He could kill a rabbit every time (at least every time I saw him throw it) at about 100 feet. He said his sons were much better at it than he was and were able to hit a rabbit at twice that distance.
Wow, that's pretty impressive.
I've used a sling numerous times, and can throw pretty far. However, it just isn't very accurate.
Yeah. Me, too. I could have been a major league baseball pitcher but I couldn't throw very fast or very accurate. Could have been a major league basketball player, too. I'm just too short too bad of a shot.
On the serious side. Using a sling to hit small game is pretty difficult for most folks. Fill the pouch with gravel instead of a single rock. I will act more like a shotgun instead of a rifle.
I agree Rick, only thing I'm slinging is the shot from the end of my shotgun :D
Slings should be registered instead of firearms.
Don't need to, Coot. Most of us are more a danger to ourselves that to other with 'em.:D
Once my slingshot backfired...... don't even ask how but it did. I think the rock was placed awkwardly, and hit (and bounced off of) the handle, and came back at me.
That explains a lot.
We are sooooo bad, Trax.
awww c'mon, I wasn't the only one thinking it, I'm just the one goofy enough to put it out there.
