550 firesteel holder
I wanted to be able to keep my firesteel attached to my SAK.I used the basic bracelet weave. After the first set of knots were tied I layed down the firesteel and weaved over it.I left the knots a bit loose so I could pull the rod out with out too much trouble.I had to shave the handle down so it would lay flat against the bracelet. All in all I like it.The only problem is when you have to put the firesteel back in.The end of the rod tends to get hung up some in the weave. It works for a first attempt. But I think I will try it again but this time put some kind of tube in first. Then slide the firesteel into the tube. That may work.

That looks good, Let me know how it stays in there after some use.

Very nice. Try some plastic water hose. They come in all sizes. Next trip to Home Depot take it along and see which size is the closest.

I re-worked my holder lastnight.Rick had a great idea that I changed a little. What I used was a piece of heat shrink tubing.I dont know where I picked it up from but it is quite rigid for heat shrink.I used a size much large than the steel and heated it up over a burner on the stove. That didnt work out so well as the tubing shrank too fast and I had to cut it off the firesteel. On the next piece I used a lighter and slowly shrank it leaving a bit of wiggle room. The extra play will get snugged up by the 550 cord. One thing that I did do was to shrink about 1/2 inch or so of the end more than the rest of the tubing creating a snug cup.I think it helps lock the steel in better.
I do not have any problems getting the steel in or out now.Its a tight enough fit that I don't have any worries about the steel just falling out.
