Marlin Model 70 Question
I have a friend who received this gun from a friend. It's a Marlin Model 70 .22 semi auto. Built in 1983. "Micro-Grooved Barrel." That's about all I know about it.
Anyways, there is a trapezoidal shaped groove cut in the barrel. Any ideas what it's for? Our guess was it was for a sight of some sort but we're looking for the right answer. Any input is appreciated.
ps - It's a straight shooter and one of these older models can be purchased for about 80-90 bucks at a pawn shop. Great deal. Just FIY

Thats a dove tail cut for a open rear sight, which isn't there any longer.
Yes, the Marlins have been around and are a good solid .22 for the bucks.
Welderguy, beat me to it.

if it isnt on the front of the barrel then there should be a dove tail cut out up there too, unless they were tapped then just two shallow holes

The front sight was press on, You can knock it off with a mallot.
Ours came off just from firing. Its been peened down.
Good news is you can call Marlin and buy both of them cheap.
While you at it, order an spare recoil srping or tow (they bend) for $4 each.
You should lower those scope mounts while your at it.
