Alcohol Stove
In trying to make the "Trianga" style alcohol stove more efficient, I can up with this. It serves as a wind screen as well as a chimney and pot holder.
I found a coffee can of the right size. (This rig is custom made to fit this pot)
The magic number is one inch.
The pot sits one inch above the burner. This allows the flame to blossom.
(If the flame is too tall, it turns yellow and soots the pot.)
The coffee can is one inch above the deck, to allow air to enter the
chimney.
And finally, the coffee can is one inch larger in diameter than the pot.
Note how the pot's folding handle just barely clears the top rim of the chimney, to maximize heat transfer along the sides of the pot.
While this stove does not pack for foot travel, it works very nicely on the tailgate of my truck.
Best of all, it was nearly free.

I do like what you've done. Some thoughts for making it more transportable.
What if the bottom of the can were left intact and just drill some holes in it for air flow? You could unscrew the legs and pot holders, drop them inside the pot along with the Trangia and put the pot inside the can. Put the lid on the can and you're off to the races.
I'm just trying to eyeball size based on your pictures but it might just work.
In any case, I like what you've done. Hard to beat the Trangia but you've definitely improved on it!!

Good idea, I'll bet it speeds heating time and saves fuel.
Sadly metal coffee cans are getting harder to find.

Wife (aka: "she who must be obeyed") thought I was crazy for cutting up an "antique" coffee can.
OK: I paid a buck for the "antique" coffee can. But it was worth it because it fit the pot so perfectly.
(Coffee can was rusty anyway) So much for antiques......

You can try Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hardware. All offer clean, new paint cans. The quart size might fit.

OMG, having to buy empty cans, the horror!!
I can remember back in the good old days...........oh, never mind.
Your right Rick, they do, and don't tell anyone I actually bought a Home depot empty 5 gal bucket, ouch that hurt to admit.
