Re intro Gryffynklm
Your Approximate Age: Male
Your Geographic Location: small town in West Virginia
Your Occupation: Quality Assurance manager Environmental Health and Safety coordinator for a safety product manufacturer.
Your Prior Relevant Training: First aid CPR, Lifeguard, not up to date
The Nature of Your Prior Experience: some camping, hiking,
Your Level of Experience: novice
Your Preparedness Planning: Our location is on the valley floor and the most likely emergency scenarios would be power outage, due to heavy storms with high winds including Ice and potential flooding.
Snow can cause main roads to be dangerous to travel. Our preparations include assembling two bug out bags and a vehicle emergency bag with an add on bag specifically to address cold weather.
Food stores are a necessity, roads can be hard to travel on for several days. We are currently at two months but need to organize better.
Your Interests and Hobbies: Historical Trades; Blacksmithing, tool making iron and wood, Leather working, wood working, Wool processing, old house restoration and repair, flint lock shooting, fishing, gardening, canning,
Want to learn: Hunting, and processing meat and hides, wild edibles and medicinals, safe camping and extended hiking, beyond a park and unload camp site.
Your Membership and Learning Objectives: I joined this forum to gain knowledge and practice the things I learn. The events that took place when Hurricane Katrina hit, taught me that in an emergency situation if large enough, there is a point you are on your own not knowing when or if help will arrive.
I choose to be more a part of the solution then part of someone else's problem. The sooner I am able to stabilize my family's position in an emergency situation the sooner I will be able to see to those around me. I have a lot of work to do to get to were I want to be. This forum has been a great help. Now if I could just get the house in IL sold I could pick up the pace.

Good re-intro!! Curious though, what do you mean by wool processing? Are you talking about using a spindle and such to make yarn and thread?
-
Looks like a trend has been started. Hey there!

Yes, although I don't raise sheep, My wife and I know a bit about shearing sheep (not proficient) carding wool, spinning, dying, knitting, and weaving. Works out well, our neighbor hood has at least 8 spinners and weavers. I know of three looms within walking distance that have active projects going. It would be cool to do a sheep to shawl weekend that would allow visitors to see all the steps from sheering all the way to weaving.
