If y'all are following the Wilderness female thread, I want to relate a Rendezvous story.
Mail order Brides????????

While back we were at The Villa Louis Mansion in Prairie du Chen, WI
called the Big River Rendezvous.
Fathers day, every year, very large camp 700 + lodges.

On the banks of the Mississippi River, with a couple river boats docked there.

Well it was early in the river boat season, the crew was pretty much collage kids, not much experience.

So about dusk, a dinner cruise boat was trying to dock, good current, crew was having a time getting it to land.

This kinda attracted a crowd on reenactors, mountain men, mo-hawks, soldiers and rif raff of all sorts, walked down to the landing watching the poor crew at work.

As it was a dinner cruise, most all aboard were older men/women...lots more women the men????

As they all crowded on to the landing side, both decks one of the older women, hollered out, "who do you guys think you are, anyway, wild Indians, pirates, bums?"

Large mountain man, long hair, beard, loin cloth, hold up a large tankard of cool aid, hollered back, "We ordered young women, these are all too old, send them back!"

Morel to the story, how picky do ya wanna get?.

I'll bet that woman that hollered out turned to her husband and said "Well, I never!"

He, having had enough over the years probably blurted out these last words "Dag-Nab-It! That's been your problem all along."

The more desperate you are, the less picky you get.

It should be that way but there are always hold outs to that rule.

We have a guy friend who is not so attractive, pushing 50, not all that healty, owes money to everyone and is a habitual liar. Not much personality either. He is confident he can get a hot 20 year old girl. He keeps trying. It's pretty sad.

His guy friends have tried explaining to him that he is at best a "4" and he will not get a "10"! But he's not understanding the math.:innocent:

He's my husbands "friend" as in he's known him for years. But yeah, the guys have been pretty blunt about it.

Here's my observation gleaned from friends & family:
The longer people remain single, the more baggage they accumulate, the less tolerant they are, the pickier they get, the less chance they have in finding a mate.
And if they don't have good friends and family to set them straight they will forever delude themselves and remain single.
Sometimes it's a good thing but most of the time a complete waste.

I read an article 2 or 3 years ago in which it stated that modern mail order brides cost the expectent groom an average of $10,000 up front plus all the money that must be spent romancing her and even after all that money is paid out if she isn't feeling it after 3 months you're out all the money and still alone. The article also hinted that as many as 50% of the companies are scams in one of the following ways, 1) they just want the up front payment and have only a few women playing multiple men at a time. 2) They just want to get over here to America and are looking for the fast track to citizenship. You sponsor and pay for them to get here plus when you marry them they get on a very excellerated track for citizenship. They then divorce you ASAP and that costs you more. 3) They get you to pay their way here then they disappear in the prostitution slave underground.

There's just no substitute for an old fashioned courtship and romance, I don't care who you are, how old, or where you live.

You forgot this ain't like a house. You can't pay it off and still have it. If it goes South so does everything you have plus dibs on whatever you may get from selling a kidney or other body parts. Benesse, I agree on the less tolerant part, but I think it comes from failed relationships rather than just being single. I'm much less tolerant after my relationship of 9 years wen't down the tubes.

And we all pay for it in one way or the other. Sometimes the girl pays, but usually it's the guy. There were times I'd a rather gave her a 100 bucks rather than have to sit and listen to her gripe every day when I got hope from work about all her "soap operatic" daily events. It got to be like a charlie brown episode, Mwo mwo mwo....Uh huh, yes maam, mwo mwo mwo mwo...really, mwo mwo mwo mwo mwo...ok.

Hopefully I'll find someone else, but I am surely less tolerant than I was 10 years ago.

Any bad experience leaves you cautious. My first marriage was to a guy who had some mental problems and refused help. When that (thankfully) ended I wouldn't even talk to any boys for a few years! LOL
Then I was probably extra picky but there are worse things than being alone!!!

cowgirlup- My ex was/is mentally ill too. I'm still single after 14 years. Been on thousands of first dates. Hundreds of seconds only two third dates. I get even a whiff of bad crazy and I start sweating. I figured out how to make them think the idea of not going forward is their idea. 49th birthday on 01-14-2010 so I guess I'm out of the gene pool now. So it doesn't matter.
