wondering if any one else on here is big on catfishing. check out my profile and check out the biggest catfish that i have caught and the biggest that anyone on the catfishing team has caught.. and if you fish in tournuments in ohio or goergia then you might know the name of the team

I've taken a 21lb. Blue and a 24lb Blue both on bluegill as bait. It took over 30 minutes to land the 24lb er. Nearly the same for the 21.

wow. fishing in the Ohio river we caught that 42 pounder in my pic. we have given up on blugills. the aint as good as the shad. we never knew bout shad till last year. slimy and nasty but welcome to catfishing i guess. creek chubs and shiners have a place but they aint as good. and we have learned that it will take a bigger fish to eat bigger bate. but its just like the rule with hooks, you can catch a big one one the small hook/bait but you cant catch a small one on a big one. we cut the shad into half inch peices. havent use chubs in a while. skipjack is another great bait. didnt have much luck on the ohio with them though. only caught squelers. but we had a good day in the morning. caught a few in the 20's, three in the high 30's, and a forty. plus 42 :innocent:. and i didnt take you for the kinda of guy who went out after cats rick. nice rebel. but in a tourney that is a decent cat. especcially in the lakes. every pound is a good pound

i love catfish. i miss Michigan. there is some good catfishing in my state, but not too close. i'm not sure i can think of a body of water in Michigan or Ohio without them.

beer batter one up for me the next chance you get. maybe some bluegill too.

My biggest is a 42 lb. Flathead caught on Lake Conway in central Arkansas. I don't take the time to catfish as much as I used to, so the odds are that will be the biggest I ever catch.

that one is a 42 pound flathead. didnt put up much of a fight either. just held n the bottom lke a snagged log. just waited for it to come up. did that five or four times and i feared for the rod. doubled over isnt the word. tripled over is. it was a great day

I love catfishing, the biggest I ever caught was 38 inch long flathead. Don't know what it weighed cause my delier only went to 12 lbs. In the local stipmines shrip seem to be the ticket.

shrimp is good bait but its not good in tourny because its a catch all bait. it will catch any fish that can get too it.

I think the biggest cat I ever caught was 36" and 27", they weren't real fat either. maybe 5-7 lbs. or so?? I used to fish em a lot and my best bait was a piece of cooked chicken cartiladge. It wouldn't come off the hook and you catch em over and over again on the same bait. We used to use freshwater clams, crawdads and nightcrawlers too.

i don't see lots of real big cats like in the south, but they're are plenty good eaters. around here the big ones are nasty tasting and full of toxins. many lakes and rivers advise against eating them altogether.

I've posted on this before but most states have a fish consumption advisory that will usually tell you which lakes and rivers are okay to eat from, which are precautionary and the fish you should not eat, as well as those lakes and rivers you should not eat from.

Try googling for your state with the words fish consumption advisory...such as indiana fish consumption advisory.

I'm not saying the Ohio River is nasty, polluted and full of garbage but the last time I walked across it to Ohio the catfish glowed as they walked over the trash. Upriver where you can get a boat in never wear a life jacket. If you fall in drown quickly and avoid a slow agonizing death. Have to get above Crown City, OH before you can put a boat in and fish are suppose to be OK but I wouldn't chance it.

as often, almost usually happens, things may have changed in the last 40 years.

i only had the chance to fish there in the late '90s, so i can not comment.

we always lower the boat in gallopolis or around there. i couldnt agree with you any more. the catfish there are wonderful in size and always put up one heck of a fight. good bait holes too. we wouldnt dare to eat anything out of there though. god nasty stuff. we once lugged up an old suitcase full of old socks and tanktops. got a few crawfish out of it. ill stick with shad as the best bait thats natural.

Other than the flatheads anything over five to seven pounds are generally not good table fare. However, a flathead tastes good no matter how big it gets. I have eaten them up to sixty pounds and never had a bad one.

However, flatheads are predatory fish and could have higher concentrations of toxins than most other fish. It is wise to check the local fishing regs for warnings and you should probably return the bigger fish for breeding purposes. With that said, I have never thrown back a flathead of any size:smash:.
