i dont much like the public schooling system anyways.
a) Calm down everyone, they're not being taught to chant death to the infidels.
b) Fortunately, they'll grow up...hopefully they'll be able to think for themselves
c) I recall an acquaintance who is a university teacher once having a verbal fight with the principal of his child's school about his child's education. The frustrated principal finally yelled at him "What exactly to you expect from the school system?"
His response "As little damage as possible"

If folks would choose to research things just a tad you'll find this was one teacher that put it together during Black History Month and was designed to recognize those African-Americans that had performed service to the country. This one happened to be about Obama so that's the one that made headlines. The school board even went so far as to say they did not authorize it.

It is real but not for the reasons everyone is posting on the internet. I can remember my teacher praising Kennedy. Telling the class what a great man the President is. Everyone called that patriotism. No one said public school is in the dumpster. We started each morning with the Pledge of Allegiance. No on called that brain washing by the government. It was the patriotic thing to do. We could stand with a stiff dose of that today.

I'm proud of my continuing service devoting my career and an enormous portion of my life to teaching in the public schools. How dare that teacher engage the students in a celebration of the president of the United States!? One democratically elected by a majority of the citizens of this country! Why, the next thing you know we'll start naming schools after presidents . . . and then airports and expressways and libraries. The horror! What is next, saying the pledge in schools? A pledge to the flag of the country that he leads?!? Get my pitchfork, Mabel!

I don't care who the teacher is, they are going to do SOMETHING in the class room at one time or another that all of us think is improper. And I don't care who you are. If you were teaching in a class room you, too, would do something at some point that all of us would consider improper. We're human. We sometimes make mistakes. And with the gift of 20/20 hindsight it's easy to condemn a teacher for doing something that might not have been thoroughly thought out, might not have been received in the way it was intended or was completed misunderstood.
The best thing to do is to be involved in your child's education, get to know the teacher(s) then ask questions if there is something you don't understand. That's true whether it is a public or private educational setting.

That's what Dottie and I are trying to do. Become involved,get to know the teachers,see what is going on.

Parental involvement is the most critical thing that teachers don't have, can't control, and can be crippled without. Notice I didn't say unwavering parental support - I said involvement. There were years that I would've gladly -paid- to have about three or four Daddys hang out and just be a presence in a couple of classes.

And, for the record, I have no problem with our children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance or being patriotic. I DO have a problem with forcing the worship of a political figure, whether they be Democrat, Republican, Black, White, or Pink with Purple pokadots.
But that isn't what happened. They were simply acknowledging the achievements of African Americans. The only one to receive press was the one on Obama. As a teacher, surely you know that often the best and easiest way for children to remember things is to put it in song or verse format. Actually, we all remember that way. It's why Gregorian Chants were used by the church in the Middle Ages when folks couldn't read. But I digress.
Had someone posted them doing a song about Washington Carver or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. no one would have raised an eyebrow and it certainly wouldn't have been covered so well.
I have no idea how many they did or who they created the songs on. I only know what I've read, be it right or wrong.

Wasn't this covered by the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The feathers were ruffled because the teacher was forcing the worship of Barrack Hussein Obama, just as the little German children were forced to worship Hitler. I don't call that "nothing".
We'll agree to disagree on this one. One teacher working with students is a far cry from worshiping Hitler to me.
and personally, I wouldn't call that worship, but I guess I'll go along with what Rick just said...

The bigger problem that I have (and yes, I do believe it was politically motivated) is that the author of a book about Mr. Obama was invited in, was promoting her book to young children, handed out the lyrics to the two songs. In addition to the bad judgement of the school to participate in that, the kids were being used as a prop for this woman to sell books. I've got no issues with honoring the first black President of the United States, especially during black history month. I do have issues about how it was done, and the apparent exploitation of young children.

OK, here is a history lesson for the ignorant!
There is film footage of teachers during the begining of WWII teaching the school kids the praises of ..........wait for it.......HITLER! GEE what did that get us????
Did they mention by the way that this teacher went to school with the savior of amerika?
SHE is not paid to indoctrinate our children and if she is unable to actually teach our children then she should be fired along with any staff that supports her!
