In it was the Ontario 12" machete and sheath I ordered. I plan to start with the modifications Pict did in his video on it. Again Pict Thank you! The sheath is nylon instead of that really neat one Pict has... oh well it will work for now!!!
YES! YES! YES!!! I am started back on a path I have strayed from for far too long!!!

Ok went to take care of horses and I just got back, Packages 1 &2 have arrived waiting on one more should be here by Tuesday at the latest (I think). Anyway #2 contained the books.
Here's the rundown on a "flip through" of books, just scanning and looking at Chapters, illustrations, pics, and other stuff you can see "at a glance".
Traditional Bowyer's Bible Volume One- Looks to be one of the best books I've ever seen on making your own bow, arrows and accessories. Jammed full of info from cover to cover!!! Super pleased with this book "at a glance".
Primitive Technology A Book Of Earth Skills This is another excellent book and well worth the money! A must have for the primitive techies!
Wilderness Living by Gregory J Davenport This Looks to be another good score and worth the money but I'm not as thrilled with it as I am the first two
Wilderness Survival by the same author as above This looks to be a fairly good introductory book as it covers many different things including signaling and of the four is the least thrilling. It reminds me of the Army Survival Manual. I've always considered the Army Survival Manual to be introductory. It covers the basics and is good enough to keep you alive until rescued,but not detailed enough to sustain you for an extended survival scenario.

The remaining Three books are books I have previously owned and they are good or I would not waste the money on them. They are books I consider BOB books.

Outdoor Survival Skills by Larry Dean Olsen Honestly this is the third of his book I have Owned.The first was stolen,the second was lost in a move. I knew what I was getting when I bought it. This is one book I will ALWAYS ENSURE is in my Library when it comes to Survival Skills. It is 2/3rds the thickness of Davenports Survival book and If I had to depend on just one book this is the one I Depend on to survive for any length of survival. Whether it is a weekend or several months. This book has more dependable knowledge than any of the "Survival" books I now own. I say this caused I've
The last two in my shipment are both Peterson's guides. Both concern plants only.they cover the Eastern/Central region of the CONtinental United States or CONUS. (Also known as the lower 48)
AS I mentioned earlier both are books I have previously owned and will make sure they are in my library. They are:
Edible Wild Plants by Lee Allen Peterson I like this book it is pretty good as are all the Peterson Guides that I have read. It is mostly artists renditions (drawings) with color plates in the center of the book. It uses symbols to tell you at a glance what the plant can be used for or even if it is poisonous.
Last but by no means least, Medicinal Plants and Herbs by Steven Foster and James Duke I'm glad I lost my first copy and here's why. It has been completely revised and it now has Photos instead of artists renditions, a vast improvement. This book I bought for all the obvious reasons.
That covers my second package as it was all books. Man this has been a good day for my Survival Preps!!! If it is Ok with the mods I would like to copy this one post and add it to the official book thread. I would like to put just the "meat" of this post in the official book thread. Or if you feel so inclined be my guest. I am really pleased with my shipments thus far. Still have more on the way!!!

Hey, Poco. One of the things I've done for my BOB is to take a 3 ring binder and incorporate the items I really like into it. Things like the U.S. Army Survival Guide, Cold Weather Injuries, Map Reading and Land Navigation and on and on. It lets me pick and choose the topics that I think are relevant to me and my family as well as our location. If I find something I really like on the web then I copy and paste it into a word document then print it out and put it in the binder. That way I have it on my computer and in my BOB. Whatever works, my friend.

Here is one I use, has slip in pockets for papers, etc. May not work for whole manuals, etc, but is a tough and durable book

The third and last(for now) of my packages arrived today Christmas is over for a little while anyway. Here's what arrived-1 Red handle Mora model 440 for Dottie/Equus, 1 pkg. snare wire, 1 bottle water purification tablets,1 Wetfire tinder. the rest of is one for each Dottie and I - 2 howler whistle 2fireball fire starter, 2 Starflash signal mirror and 2 Frontier water filter straw. All from Safezone LLC, and I'm very pleased with it all. I now feel that I have the basic necessities for a decent Survival kit. From here on out it will be additions, upgrades,and replacements. At least the basics are covered now.

The Modifications He suggests aren't really something that you can do before and after pic's of.... Sorry My camera just isn't THAT good!! However if you watch the video you will get a good idea of what has been done. It is DEFINITELY worth watching!!! Especially if you have the Ontario 12" Machete!! Once again thank you Pict for your input, it has already made mine better IMO.Even though the modifications are really minor,takes about 5 minutes tops,and are barely perceptible.
Also in continuing the thoughts of that thread... I decided that both the Machete AND the Tomahawk are worth carrying in a BOB. Neither is THAT large or that heavy.

I'm sorry Iceman, I forgot in my previous post about the 'Hawk. It is an Allen Foundry, Octagon model, I have been able to find very little about it on the web,unfortunately. But I love it. I have some other pics of some different models if you are interested, Courtesy of Rick. They are also by Allen Foundry.they are L-R a reproduction of a British Belt ax, the Woodland 'Hawk, And the Frontier 'Hawk. My personal fav's are the #1 Octagon #2 Frontier #3 Belt ax and lastly the Woodland(only because it has the smallest blade length and probably not that good for chopping IMO).
Sorry it seems I forgot the Octagon,I'll add that now.
