While in Louisiana last winter, went hunting with the DD and SIL.
Their lease is in a pine plantation, and as it has been used several times, I noticed that there was a lot of "lighter pine", "fat wood", "pine knots" or what ever you call it laying around.
As my mind is always looking for "stuff", I picked up a bunch of it, cut it into small pieces, for use as fire starter.
When I go done, I had quite a bit of sawdust left from cutting.
So I figured that it also would burn pretty good.
Collected some paper egg cartons, melted some wax and came up with my
New and Improved fire starters.

This is the old style (not the beer), simply the news paper that I used to catch over flow, rolled as tight as I could, tied up with string, and also soaked in the bal of the wax.

In testing both, it turns out that both have a burn time of about 12-15 min,
easy to light and would probaly start almost any wood, unless it was very wet.
In honesty, the old rolled up paper work as well as the egg carton, was less work, and far easier. (Never know till you try
Oh, well, at least I have a freash supply to tuck into my BOB, coat pockets,
etc.
