View Full Version : A New Tattoo
I had just finished filling my gas tank last Saturday night, when a young man jumped out of a car filled with kids and called out my name. His forearm was wrapped with plastic food wrap - covering a brand new tattoo. I barely recognized him, and couldn't remember his name.
In a rush, he shook my hand and told me that he hadn't been in trouble since I had helped him. He said that he was leaving for Afghanistan on Monday. His brother would follow him there in two weeks.
He didn't tell me who he was, and I never got the chance to ask, because he was back in the car with his buddies in seconds. In that blur of time, all I had the chance to say was, "Thank you."
If I were ever to read about him, I would be able to associate his name with his face. I hope I never do.
I've read and re-read Doug's post, "Sad Day Today," and I keep thinking about that young man and his brother. Please pray that they stay safe.

never put plastic saran wrap over a new tattoo, who ever gave him the ink is an idiot, and yes i have a body full of ink so i think this qualifies me to say this

some areas were a little sensitive yes, others not so much, i found the back of my neck to hurt the worst my inner biceps you think would hurt but i slept right thru those, and area around elbows and kneepcaps also hurt and bone on bone, like the shine, and fingers hurt too
Actually, I wasn't worried about any of those places. Just sayin'........

No offense to those with tattoos, But I have yet to see any picture that I like so much that I want it attached Permanently to any part of my body. Tattoos is just something I don't get, What's the purpose? What do you get out of it?
I understand the cultures where it is a Rite of Passage, or Cultural Identification, But the rest of the world... I'm just clueless.
.......actually, I don't have one either. I know it's hard to believe, but I was just kidding about War and Peace. :blushing:

I have 4 tats and all I drew myself. They all have meaning to me. However, all mine can be covered by a plain ol' t-shirt. Some people ask me why I got them where no one can see them and I say because I got them for me not for others to look at. And to get back on the main topic of this thread, which is a very important one, thank you for all those that put their lives on the line for us to be free. God bless my "Brothers in Arms"

well let me shed some light on this for you
my first ink came when i graduated basic, i was the first one who showed up to airborne with my us army infantry tat, alot had talked about it, i did it. it was addictive after that, alot of my ink tells a story about me, some people like some don't , my wife hates my left arm sleeve as it is very dark themed all about death and destuction and the struggle of a soldier/man to deal with the results of it all. my right sleeve is all about color and life, it is ying and yang right arm and left arm, my chest peice came from cage fighting, and i was getting alot of this work before alot of then wannabes are now, some are rodeo themed some are from different parts of my life that i never want to forget, so i had them put on my body, was some of it rebellious, don't know maybe a shrink could say, for me it was about persoanl experssion and setting my self apart from others, something i have always done both with my body and with my actions. one of my very good freinds has no ink, he says its his way of being different, if you have no ink thats cool, its just who you are.bottom line

Oh that's Cool, I just don't get it. My way of being "different" is to grow a handlebar mustache So if I want be a conformist all I have to do is shave. LOL! But I have had my 'Stache for about a decade off and on - mostly on. I've seen a lot of people with tats But it is getting SOOOO common. I just don't think it's for me.

And there were these girls...I won't say who.
They had cute little hummingbirds tattooed in the middle of their lower back. Cute.
That was 10 years ago. Today those hummingbirds look like California Condors. They've put on a bit of weight since then.:innocent:
