Good Camping Recipe

My wife and I spent Friday night through Sunday at Salomonie State Forest canoeing, hiking and camping. I fixed a meal Saturday night that turned out to be pretty good so I thought I'd share the recipe. It's easy peasy.

Start with two layers of aluminum foil.
Slice half an onion and lay on the foil.
Add your favorite burger. I used ground turkey but you can use your choice.
Slice a potato and lay on top.
Add lots of carrots.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Fold foil to seal and place on hot coals. It's ready in 30 minutes. Careful when you open the foil. Stream will escape. Once you open the foil you can add some grated cheese if you choose.

An added bonus, clean up is a snap.

Hey! that is pretty much the same recipe we used when I was a boy scout. Of course back then there was no such thing as ground chicken or turkey. In fact I think I got that recipe either out of our boy scout manual or Boys life, cant remember which. It is a great recipe though! Damm! now i'm hungry.

Learned that one in High School from a teacher in Health class! He also taught us how to tr=urn the #10 tin can into a stove! I used the same thing the last couple of years at the Fest with Onions & mushrooms over a rib-eye; worked great! Aluminum foil, another great "multi-use" item! :cool2:

Sounds good. I love to cook in foil on the coals - as you say - clean up is a snap. Here's one of my favorites - affectionately called the veggie wad.

Cut up chunks of potato, carrot, red pepper, green pepper, plus two ears of corn and place in foil. Add a jar of Pace Chunky Salsa - wrap - toss it in the coals for about 30 minutes.

Thanks!! I just tossed the veggie wad in my recipes. Crash's Veggie Wad. I won't say what I think that sounds like, though.

Somebody, at sometime, somewhere on this site posted the Omlette that's fixed in a Zip-Lock bag in a pan of boiling water. For the life of me I can't find it. :cool2:
