I recently bought this new product on the market and I have to say, I love it!!! I don't like the typical bug sprays because of the harmful effects deet can have on you. So when I came across this spray, which is all natural and does not contain deet, I had to give it a try! It worked so well and actually had a fresh smell to it! I definitely want to recommend it to everyone reading this, as I have already told all my friends and family about it! I found it on this website, ******** it's pretty inexpensive for an all natural spray, and the quality is unbeatable! Hope this helps!

Good insect repellant that smells nice?? that would be 50/50 mix teatree oil and lavender oil 5 drops diluted into 10 tbsp almond oil. Works for me!

Hey hey...it does have lavender oil and teatree oil! It has a bunch of other essential oils too....it has a lemon mint scent to it! I love it! I'm all excited over it bc I never really had to use bug sprays living in NYC, now I can't step outside without being attacked! I had heard some bad things about DEET and looked it up then was scared to use it so when I came across this product I was a happy camper...literaly! =)

Deet is perfectly fine as long as you follow the directions. The difference between the fragrance stuff and DEET is DEET has had studies run on it while the fragrance stuff has not. So it really is a known vs. an unknown.

Well thanks for the 411...I've been getting mixed reviews so I guess it's just a preference thing :confused: I think for now I will stick with my Horse and Handler...unless I forget it or run out ect ect

I break out in a rash from most insect repellants Rick, must be sensitive to something in them. The above recipe was actually given to me by a vet to keep the flies off my horses... but it works equally well on people too. It's very cheap and effective.

The one I was talking about...Horse and Handler....it's for horses too I guess...I dont have horses but given the name of the spray it's a given :) and It also says it on the label!

Bug repellant that smells good? I used some that had lemon grass, coconut oil and mint.

Worked great, but I sure felt like I was lathering on ketchup for a bear so I stopped wearing it.

I don't use any bug repellant. Long sleeved shirts, tight weaves, hat and bug net for the very bad times. If I get bit too bad a dose of benedryl spry takes the itch away pronto and bob's yer uncle.

I am a mosquito magnet, and have tried a bunch of different products, and for me anything with a scent seems to get me stung worst.

No not that I can remember...possibly when I was a kid my parents may have used it on us kids but I can't remember a time when I have ever had to use it. It's a different climate, much more humid so you would think I would have used it but I didn't spend much time outdoors other than walking from place to place...and the occasional park visit and besides central park there aren't much trees and grass where bugs are a problem (roaches are a dif story!)

Try Listirine mouth wash(the yellow one).Spray it where you are sitting and the mozzies will leave you alone.Citronella also works.After dark wear long sleeves and long pants.

I also try to avoid using DEET all the time and wear protective clothing instead. However whenever I am near the Burmese or Cambodian borders I use DEET as there is some real bad types of malaria there and really don't want to get bit. DEET may be harmful but it is the only stuff that works for me. If I could find another product which is natural and proven to be effective I would try it.

I think the "harmfulness" of DEET is highly overrated. Some small percentage of people are allergic to it, and you don't want to spill it on anything made of plastic, but otherwise the stuff is awesome. I use the highest concentration I can get.

I have heard that tea tree oil (which I use for shaving) can be a good insect repellant, though I have not really tested that out. I hear that nothing really compares to the effectiveness of DEET, though.

Deet is a funny animal. Using lower concentrations doesn't mean it is less affective it just means it doesn't work as long. If you need to stay outside for an hour then 5% Deet might be plenty. The CDC recommends 30% - 50% Deet.

I've developed a sensitivity to DEET. Problem with DEET is if you do use it according to the directions it's impactical or ineffective to use. I spend much time in the woods, so using DEET that much would violate the "directions".

I was up north hunting morels this spring, unprepared for the difference in mosquito population. I was standing in a huge bed of wild leeks, stuffed em in my pockets, crushed the leaves and rubbed on my exposed skin and clothing, ate a few too. It didn't keep them 100% at bay, but it made my walk in the woods tolerable.

If I use DEET it's on my clothes, back of hands, and then I rub a lil bit on my face, neck and ears. I usually wear a headnet and longsleeves in the woods, even in the summer.

If I get bit and find some jewelweed, usually do, I'll crush and rub it on the bites. It really works good to stop the itch and reduce inflammation.

Next time I'm out I'm gonna give the tuna a try. No bears round here. LOL!

Um, the military uses Deet and I bet they tested everything under the sun as a repellent.

As for the Listerine, I have a friend that swore by it for about 2 days, but went back to a commercial spray. I think it was more psychological then actually effective.

As odd as it may seem, I've found that eating garlic keeps the bugs away without any sprays involved. I put garlic in nearly everything I eat, and don't have nearly as much problems with bugs as most.

Are you bathing with hypoallergenic soap / no fragrance. No fragrance in the deodorant, no cologne, etc. etc.

Sometimes when you go back and read a thread where posts have been removed it makes less sense than it originally did. When we get an obvious spammer, the membership is pretty quick to self-regulate the situation until a mod logs on. You were just joining in the feeding frenzy - no worries.

My pleasure. I'm not familiar with the Front Line collars, and I know that they reformulated Front Line a couple of years ago, but most of the flea business I get is when people switched from Advantage to Front Line to save a couple of bucks. The little plastic tubes of the meds are sold by "weight of the dog". If you get the size for a dog twice the size of the one you have and only use half a tube (applied once a month) you can save quite a bit.

Awww man. What if a mosquito had bitten someone with like hep-c or hiv or something and then bit me or my kids! Or worse yet, one had been exposed to some kind of radiation and once bit you started experiencing "mosquito powers".
