Honest? Is this a drive-by, or are you asking a serious question here?

Just for starters, can you name/describe the 42 different shelters you know how to make? :innocent:

yes it is jst very time consuming and not all of them have names seeing that i built and tested some myself includeing some like hollowing out a live tree and an A-Frame and a pit shelter plus some cave shelters:bat:

Humor me. C'mon, list all 42. Please! I'm sure there are some I've never heard of before, and I'm here to learn, too.

And just why would you want to hollow out a live tree, especially one big enough to provide you with shelter? Does the phrase "Leave No Trace" mean anything to you?

Now, if you are:

"experienced in making fire with bow and drill and also friction boards" and

"know about heat reflection" and

"know how to make 42 diffirent shelters" and

"have an extensive knowlage of edible plants" and are an

"experianced hunter/trapper/fisherman/survivalist" and are

"strong (bench 300)" and

"know MANY basic survival skills including how to purify water" and

"will have a cell phone/gps and radio for emergancys" and your

"father will check on (you) once a day"

Why aren't you an instructor at a top notch survival school? What type of help are you asking us for?

I am not trying to be rude or hurtful but as I am sure you are very intelligent, having learned more in 14 years apparently than I have in 56, that you now apply some of this intelligence in learning the English language.

srry bout the typoes im not proofing and i study this cause i love doing it and i was inspired by the book hatchet at age 3 soo iv been doing this since 5 when i could read myself

If you can really do the things you claim, my tip is that you hire a agent and get your own television series.

Really, I'm impressed just by the fact that you can name that number of shelters. May I suggest that you start a thread with a post, including any pictures you have, about each one? If you really know your stuff, I'll bet my backpack (empty) that your thread becomes a "sticky."

I thought I was the only 14 year old that could bench 300. Must be an Indiana farm boy thing. sounds to me that since you're Dad is hoing to be keeping an eye out for you it should be ok.

anyone got any good instant fire tinder finding ideas? i usually make fuzzsticks but im out of birch for the year so i thought maybe brown pine needles? i heard from a book that they were adequate tinder

i know im gettin older... but a zombie? yea that sounds right! my advice for you is to test your endurance for exposure and practice methods of taking control over that. surviving and finding food are not too difficult. controling how you are (are not ) exposed to elements is the hard skiil to aquire.

I was exposed to the element on the stove once. I was NOT testing my endurance mind you and my exposure, although much longer than I wanted, did last any longer than I could help it. It really hurt.

quick question for ya pup
it has been raing here for 3 days and i am fixing to head out for a couple of days in the bush, how am i to start a fire when everthing has been soaked and it is calling for rain for the next 4 days any suggestions for me?

you will be fine if you know how to make a fuzzstick or if you find a pine/evergree tree cause the dead brown needles/branches on the bottom stay dry

Thats quite a weight for a 14 year old. Infact, thats easily enough to damge growing muscles.

Ofcourse i could be wrong in thinking that its kilograms.

Where I live, you have to be 18 to OWN a handgun, but must be 21 to purchase one.
I don't know the laws in your neck of the woods (I can admit when I don't have knowledge of a subject) but I'm guessing that a 14 year old carring a handgun is illegal.

Indiana is pretty forgiving:

"No state permit is required for the possession of a rifle, shotgun, or handgun.It is unlawful for an adult to provide a firearm to a child or for a child to possesses a firearm except while the child is:

Attending a hunter safety or firearms safety course and an adult is supervising the child during the course.
Target shooting at a range or in an area where the discharge of a firearm is not prohibited or supervised by a qualified firearms instructor or adult while at the range.
Engaging in an organized firearm competition or practicing for a performance by an organized group that uses firearms as a part of a performance.

Lawfully hunting or trapping with a license.
Traveling with an unloaded firearm to or from an activity described in this section.
On real property that is under the control of the child’s parent, an adult family member, or legal guardian and has permission from the child's parent or legal guardian to possess a firearm.
At the child's residence and has the permission of the child's parent, an adult family member or legal guardian to possess a firearm.

It is unlawful to possess a firearm on school property, property used for a school function, or a school bus. This prohibition shall not apply to a person who may legally possesses a firearm and possess the firearm in a motor vehicle while transporting another person to or from school or a school function."

He can not carry a handgun until 18 however.

then you can try alot of things including Magnesium (if you have it) birch bark/twigs are great even after it has rained pine resin works, plus you can use oak leaves if there is a nice thick "carpet" of them on the forest floor you can use fallen trees "punky" wood you could use vaseleen covered cotton balls you can use any 7 in diameter log if you break it open and shave tinder out of the inside

Jagjj, reread your resume on the intro. Maybe I'm misreading, or reading into it a bit. But my only question is "Have you done all this?" I know you are knowledgeable, but have you built all the shelters you listed, or have just read about them. Have you built shelter or fire in pouring rain?
It's one thing to know how to do these things, but totally different when you're in the bush. Not doubting your ability. Just concerned.

Even in Thailand many of the natives write English much better than the original poster of this discussion. By the age of 14 one should be able to write better than this. The educational system in America today is in a bad way. It is good to know how to build 47 shelters but in today's world it is more important most of the time to be able to communicate, especially if one hopes to get a good job.

im going to cook in new england im 52 im experienced in the kitchen i have a paring knife (henckel) 3 slotted spoons including pasta and a cleaver plus a chopping board even a fish boning knife i have an appetite am experienced in making fire with stove top and grill and also charcoal i know about heat reflection i know how to make 42 diffirent sauces i have an extensive knowlage of edible produce and im experianced fryer/broiler/boiler/baker/griller/omelet maker i am strong (carry my own groceries) and know MANY basic cooking skills including how to boil water and i will have a fire extinguisher/cookbook/food substitute list for emergancys and my mother will check on me once a day to make sure I don't burn the water does everyone think i can do it?

and i forgot to metion that i have FOUR cookbooks authored and SIGNED by emeril AND that emeril's ex-wife lived just two houses up the street from me so if that doesn't do it what does you know im just bound to be a great chef and i can even scramble eggs and make toast at the same time without burning the toast two bad but if it gets covered with butter - enuf butter - and someone else makes good bacon the brekfst is just poifect so im gonna be cooking in new england and when i open a restaurant next to jagjj's servivel skool you can all come and ill show you my henckels.

Jagjj, earlier you asked if we consider you properly educated for this idea. I am slightly concerned about that. Two words: Capital letters!!! Boy can't even write properly and is thinking on playing with his life... I am not native English speaker and still I consider my English and writing in general much better than yours. It is total pain reading such poorly composed text. Please make your teachers proud next time.

Now aren't you being just a wee bit nitpicky? You don't need to know how to type or write to survive in the woods. I believe the kid has some experience. He's not perfect, but neither are the rest of us. I think he is off to a good start and wish him luck.

im going to survive in northwest indiana im 14

(SHOOT, YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SURVIVED PUBERTY YET!)

im experienced in survival i have a buck knife (113) 3 multitools including pocketplyers and a hatchet plus an axe even fishing supplys i have a survival am experienced in making fire with bow and drill and also friction boards i know about heat reflection i know how to make 42 diffirent shelters i have an extensive knowlage of edible plants and im experianced hunter/trapper/fisherman/survivalist i am strong (bench 300) and know MANY basic survival skills including how to purify water and i will have a cell phone/gps and radio for emergancys

(YAWN!)

and my father will check on me once a day

yes it is jst very time consuming and not all of them have names seeing that i built and tested some myself includeing some like hollowing out a live tree and an A-Frame and a pit shelter plus some cave shelters:bat:

EDIT: and yes im TOTALLY serious i love survival its jst something about me i watch all the shows (but Survivorman and Man vs Wild are a little staged) and i have some experiance seeing me my dad and my grandfather were stranded in canada for 1 week and a half longer then we had intended sooooo i learned ALOT and iv been thinking about testing myself like this for some time nowActually there are only a few categories of shelters, your ignorance is showing!:cool2:

srry bout the typoes im not proofing and i study this cause i love doing it and i was inspired by the book hatchet at age 3 soo iv been doing this since 5 when i could read myselfI've read the book & have the movie; it's "ok", but remember that the kid in the story did NOT go out to INTENTIONALLY put himself in danger, & it was a work of fiction with a writer keeping his character safe. You need to study real life survival stories & get a "reality check" dude!:cool2:

If you're not putting us on then your very immature & unwise. "Survival Experts" do not come on here and ask for "tips", they give tips! Ok guys, it's not a question of disliking the kid, it's all about his attitude. He claims, under his screen name, that he's a "Survival Expert." Then he ask questions that anybody who's studied "Survival 101" should know the answer to. I think he's playing us, but if not then he needs to humble himself a bit. Maybe, instead of the title "Survival Expert" he could use "Survival Student", then I'd lighten up a bit. Arrogance like this is "anti-survival.":cool2:

I DID IT

but i went to canada this week and another mishap happened and i saved the day our boats engine wasnt attached properly and it fell off and the 30 mph winds made it impossible to get back to camp so we got on an island and in the poring rain i got a shelter, fire, and some fish cooked and we spent the night warm, dry and full soo the survival did good too i jst think this was more eventful than that
