What do you carry on your person in public at all times? I carry my fixed blade, my multi-tool, my magnesium fire starter, and my mini-maglite.

Personally, I carry a variety of items. I wear military BDU's on a daily basis and I keep the cargo pockets filled with gear. I carry a firesteel, a pencil sharpener, steel wool and dryer lint in an empty prescription bottle,a bandana, a Fenix PD30 flashlight, spare batteries, a whistle, a photon II Flashlight on my keychain, a fishing kit with hooks, sinkers,and 30yds.of fishing line, a multi-tool on my belt, a Gerber Freeman Folder in my pocket and I am sure that I left something out.

depending on where i am going i carry different items. but there are certain items i have on me all the time.
since i love photography i usually carry my nikon with me with a couple of lenses. i carry a first aid kit. i also carry a Maratac 9290 AA Tactical Flashlight, my benchmade griptillian folder, and a EDC kit that i put together inside a pocket organizer. the contents in my EDC kit are: a ziplock bag with q-tips and cotton balls, a bic lighter, a mini bottle of motrin and aspirin, ink pen, permanent marker, a pen screw driver that has a flat head and philips head, a mini pry bar, torque set for my folder, diamond sharpening rod, and my mini swiss army blade. i also carry my wallet, chapstick and cell phone with me wherever i go.

I carry my wallet since it has my CDL in it, my keys so I can get back in the house after I leave, at least 2 decks of cards on my belt in case I need to perform at any given time, a fanny pack with more performing stuff, & my cell phone.:cool2:

Usually and depending on where I might be going Beretta 45. I always have a SOG Flash II, SAK, wallet, keychain light, glasses. I use a walking stick because I look old enough to need one and first line of defense. I will leave the 45, knives in the vehicle if I might go where they aren't welcome, but I can always carry the walking stick. Oh I forgot the cell phone(to call for HELP)

I keep a fully loaded pack in my car at all times as well as a Garmin GPS, iPod, tool kit, serious first aid kit, two LOADED duffel bags, a spare briefcase, etc. If it isn't in my car, I can live without it for at least 2 weeks. I'm almost never more than 200 yards from my car.

I'm pretty new to "survival thinking", but sitting here thinking about it, finding my truck, in a survival situation, would be near to hitting the mother-load. I'm a grading contractor, and work out of my truck, mostly. There's a lot of useful stuff in there! LOL
I'll bet he makes the metal detectors at the court house melt down.
I get to bypass the metal detectors with my bar I.D. I don't CCW in court - although it's probably one of the likely places where it may be most useful. :sneaky2:

Well, I went to Walmart last night to pick up chips for a Friday office party and carried what I always carry on me.
Left front: keys - truck, house, other house, and truck's remote
Right front: Wegner Swiss army knife that I've had for 18-19 years, Kershaw Leek, Motorola Razor phone
Right back: Keltec .32 in the pocket holster. wish I had a .380 :(
Left back: wallet
If for whatever reason I get that hinky feeling or feel more sheep doggish that day I'll wear my Glock 23 under my shirt in the pancake holster and clip my badge on down there too.
What's in my truck is an entirely different matter and secretive ;)
He'd tell us but then he'd have to kill us and there are just soooo many of us it'd be a chore.

I normally have my wallet with all my licenses (required as an EMT at work)
my gerber tanto, sometimes my surefire, 5 gum (green or blue) keys, on my feet are a pair of size 12 duty boots that could kick the snot out of any trouble.
Yeah, but then you'd have snot on your boots and have to clean it off. Eeeewwww.

On average, at a minimum I'm carrying the following:
Right front pocket: Kahr PM45
Left front pocket: Victorinox Midnight MiniChamp, loose change.
Left cargo pocket: Badge, zippo
Right cargo pocket: headlamp, hat
Left rear pocket: Wallet
On belt: Victorinox Swiss Champ
Often I'll also be wearing my modified fishing vest (see avatar) that has about 30 pockets full of stuff. When it won't draw too much attention, I'll also be wearing a SOG SEAL 2000 on my belt.

I'm actually quite surprised how many useful multi-use items are in my girlie handbag. There's the usual keys, mobile phone, purse, tissues, paracetamol, little torch, a few plasters, a light scarf, plastic shopping bag and I found a plastic disposable poncho lurking in there. A pair of nail scissors and metal nailfile. Owing to the weapon laws over here ther's no knives etc but at a push the nailfile could do some damage.
Is 5"10" short?

Well after re-reading this thread, and after BENNESSE asking about what/why I carry some things, and some new folks joining, I have decided to answer this question. Also to revive this thread which has some good info for some of the newer folks.
This is the Minimum I carry on a daily basis. 2 knives(1 single blade folder,and one SAK), 3 firesteels (1 actual use and 2 smaller "back-ups" in my wallet), 2 Bic lighters(1 to use and 1 back-up) I small "Energizer" 3 function keychain LED flashlight( Bright, low,Flashing light functions) 1 small pocket knife sharpener,and a 1 qt. bottle of whatever I'm drinking(sweet tea or Gatorade usually) tobacco, rolling papers(I roll my own cigarettes,unless I'm driving), Reading glasses, wallet,money,keys(w/ a p-38 can opener). If I am carrying my fanny pack,you can add some "extras" - Poncho, PJ saturated cotton balls, personal First aid kit, some string,maybe another knife. If I don my vest add some more "survival stuff",same with my jean jacket. One of these days I'm going to have to weigh all this stuff. Probably about 5 lbs. But I ♥ this stuff.

Raw Almonds/Gum/Zone candy bar (nutrition if I'm starving)

Vicks Inhaler (for smelly cabs and other smelly areas)
Pen & Note pad
I'd love to carry a gun but I'm afraid I'd use it much too often.
What am I missing, that might make sense for me to have?

Nail file is fairly obvious same as the other two. The blade could always be used cutting open mail, packages or those string tags that they use sometimes in stores. That's just for starters. I think having this particular model,given your particular set of circumstances, This model would even be easy to explain to your friends. Who knows you may start a trend among all your acquaintances!!

i love my small SAK, i use that dang thing all the time. i really like the tweezers. they are nice and thin to get the smallest splinters.

Daily carry...hmmm. Well, a small 3 blade Schrade, enough cash to fill up the tank (even when it is full), my keys which have a small flashlight on the ring, pain meds, nail clippers, chapstick, bottle of water, and whatever is in my carry bag, plus smokes and zippo.

Clothes...everything else depends on where I am and what I'm doing. And 4 dogs are constantly around me within a 15' radius.
I would think even clothes would depend on where you're at and what your doing. It's not like you have a lot of neighbors......just sayin'.

Don't carry a gun, don't figure I need to. May strap on the Gerber sheath knife now and then.

Being a Confirmed Knife Nut, I'm reeaall PROUD of ya'!!! I have carried a knife for around 40 years and I just don't see how people can live without one. If I don't have one I feel naked and vulnerable, Kinda' like getting caught somewhere with a rip in the seat of my britches and no way to fix it 'til I get home. It's embarrassing!!

I also have a Mora 780 in the BOB.
Seemed like a good choice to start (based on all I read here) albeit not very
fancy or "sexy". Beyond that, I wasn't gonna spring a lot of dough right off the bat without having a personal, tactile experience with it out in the field to know what's right for me.

I am always amazed at the volume of stuff some guys carry.
The only thing that is unique for me is the way I carry spare ammo. Ankle pouches are very common in Brazil for carrying cash or other high value items. I use one of these to carry a PSK sometimes in Brazil and discovered that it perfectly fits two Glock 17 magazines when I'm in PA. I carry them on the right ankle inside. I figure that if I ever fire 15 rounds of 9mm in self defense I'll be behind cover or bleeding out. In the winter I drop it in my right jacket pocket.

In public, that's pretty broad. Where hardware isn't legal as in federal, state, schools etc I only carry keys, LED small light, cell phone, wallet and walking stick or cane. Local area malls I add a SAK & SOG Flash II. I will carry a 45 if I think I have a remote chance of needing a firearm. I trust more in awareness and a nice walking stick in most places for self defense. I keep my vehicles "stocked" and only carry one extra mag with me.

Being Ex-Military I can see his humor, Poking fun at us "Civilians". Thanks for putting it in perspective. And a very special Thank you for doing what you do,day in day out.
BTW I also feel a lot better about the "Junk" I carry now. I think I could add some stuff and still feel "light" after Woodsmans post.
