Now I decided I need ANOTHER light :innocent:. I already have a good 6v Inova X5 for my general tasks, a LED lantern for my tent; but I feel that I need a headlamp for setting up camp, working on stuff, and just to look cool! :innocent: I've been looking at the Streamlight Trident, which has 3 LED's and a Xenon spotlight. You can select 1 LED (about as bright as a photon II), 3 LED's, or the Xenon. I know lots of people like the Petzl lights (I hope I spelled that right) I can't really afford anything over 30$, and I don't really want another CR123A's (can't afford to feed em'). Thanks!

Honestly, the one I got from wally world outlasted my Black Diamond and Petzl headlamps. I've got 4 or 5 working carbide lights I really love.

Just mount one of these on your helmet. DON'T trip over the extension cord.

Home Depot, flashlight section, $19.95.

Had to pick one up to work at night a month back, now I am wondering? How did I ever get along without one. Working in containers on blowers and elect. motors, that little light on my head is a real big help.

I don't leave home without my Princeton Tec 'Eos'. I know you want to stay around $30, and they're approx $40, so you may have to do the e-bay thing. In my opinion it's the best headlamp available. I think it got best headlamp awards etc. as well, if thats any help. I also use the Petzl Tikka XP, while the XP has a couple more functions that the Eos, the Eos is much brighter, and throws light much farther.

Nothing like a headlamp constantly being a necklamp.

The first one is $40 and the second is $85, which was more than you wanted to spend but worth every penny.

I know that this is going to be a loaded question, but here goes anyway. I have been thinking about getting a couple of headlights for nightime use for around camp after dark and for the occasional night fishing trip.
What type of light do you guy's recommend? The type that clips to your hat or the type that fits around your head? Also what name brands? Your help will be very much appreciated. Thank's.

Loaded question for sure. I would suggest at looking at some of the lights with UV led's for the night fishing you mentioned. Those will "light up" florescent fishing line without attracting as many bugs. Helps when tieing on hooks as well as where your line is drifting in the water. I have both kind you asked about. The cap style force you to bend your head down to see the path right in front of you. The kind that use straps usually tilt up and down. If you wear a cap or hat often the strap style may not work too well. The brim of a hat blocks half of your beam. The half nearest your feet, where I really want see most.

Tennecedar - Look at the Photon "Freedom" Micro Lights. They clip on your hat brim and will adjust in all directions.

I carry the Photon Freedom. It's advertised as the brightest LED light in the world. I had never considered the UV aspect that Tennecedar outlined but it's a great idea. The Freedom comes with any color light beam, IR and UV. The brightness settings are variable from dim to very bright.

One of the nice features of the Freedom is you can set it to strobe or auto blink S.O.S. That could be a nice feature if you were injured and trying to attract attention.

I also carry a Petzl Tikka Plus. It has three brightness settings plus the strobe.

I've had mine for about a year. I carry it every day as part of my pocket survival kit and I've never changed batteries in it. I don't use it everyday but use it quite often. More than any other flashlight I own. Since it's in my pocket it's sort of my "go to" light.

I have a PhotonII(The one with the little slide switch. It's at least 3 years old and on my keychain. I have replaced batteries several times as I do use it a lot, and once my son turned it on and left it in the back yard. I found it the next day and it was still running. Great little lights.

Headlamps... I cannot say how much I like the Petzl e+light. It is extremely adjustable, works well on a hat with either the supplied headlamp and built in clip, and is very light so it's not onerous to wear for hours at a time. It has two down sides.

1. It's not incredibly bright, many are MUCH brighter. I actually like that as I find BRIGHT lights in tha dark are annoying.

2. Uses non rechargeable button batteries. CR2032. They do last a long time though.

Tennecedar - I found the tec info on the light. 12-100 hours of continuous burn time depending on mode. If you left it on high you'd get the 12 hours. SOS would probably burn a long time.

12 hours on hi beam is well worth the 15 bucks to me. I showed the wife and she asked "what color you gettin' the boys?" Oh well. They need gear too.

Recently picked up 2 new headlamps:
*Princton Tec 'Quad'(there is a tactical version), FANTASTIC! 4 ultrabright led's, i was shocked at how bright this thing was. weight 96gm. 45 lumens compared to 50 on my EOS. 110hr battery life. The small led's spread the light over a larger area than the eos(the eos projects 'farther'). Averaging just over $20 online(crazy), this is by far the best headlamp on the market for that price, imho.

*Petzl 'Tikka Plus'. Another FANTASTIC light! weight 78gm. 35 lumens. 100 hr battery life. Approx. $28 online.

I would strongly recommend the Rayovac Sportsman Extreme headlamp. It uses one AA cell and has a fairly bright white lamp and a red and blue lamp as well. It has a rotating diffusor to make the beams either a flood or spot beam.

Walmart used to have them, but discontinued them. Menards has them for about $12 now which is cheaper than the $20 that Walmart used to want for them.
