It seems everyone was gung'ho "Talking" about survival, till it became time to contribute work or money. It seems (Now where have we heard this before) it is one thing to talk about it, and quite another to get outdoors and build something.......:rolleyes:

It reminds me of being on the rodeo commitee here. Four people show up for the monthly meetings, four people do the work with sponsors, four people hire the band/stock contractor/vendors/beer distributor, and four people try to put on a good show. Everyone else complains.

Sounds like the group was doing a "Leave This Life" kind of preparation.
I seriously doubt many are ready for that.
I'm not sure I'd be ready to live like hopeak, for that matter.
I personally prepare for me and my family the best I can. I would probably be OK in a Jericho-type situation. But, if I had to totally hole-up, off-map, off-grid, off-radar - well, I know I'm not ready for that. I doubt many are.
Well, like so many things - talk is cheap. Start asking for money, and people run for the hills.

Never underestimate the power of a T-shirt.

For many years, we've done gratis traffic control for an event which is technically outside our jurisdiction. After the event, we all got a T-shirt.

Several years ago, in an effort to save a few bucks - the organizers of the event decided not to give us T-shirts. The next year, our chief decided we no longer needed to do traffic control. The organizers decided to have volunteer traffic control.

The next year, a large bundle arrived way before the event - T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts as well.
