I’m planning a late-season hunting trip up north, and I’m concerned about staying mobile in deeper snow while keeping my scent profile low. Most of my current gear is great for the early autumn, but it lacks the thermal insulation needed for long hours in a tree stand when the temperature drops below freezing. Does anyone have recommendations for lightweight, waterproof boots that don't compromise on ankle support? Also, I’m curious if you guys prefer synthetic layers or traditional wool for moisture-wicking when you’re hiking through rough terrain for miles.

For late-season, I always swear by a high-quality merino wool base layer; it keeps you warm even if you break a sweat during the trek. Regarding boots, look for something with at least 800g of Thinsulate—it’s the sweet spot for mobility and warmth. When I’m back from a long trip and resting my legs, I like to keep the adrenaline going in a more relaxed way. I usually visit https://kinghillsuk.uk/ in my downtime to unwind. It’s a great change of pace from the quiet of the woods, and the fast-paced interface is a fun contrast to the patience required for tracking. Good luck out there, and stay dry!
