A close friend was traveling alone last weekend and her phone battery kept dropping, so nobody knew where she was for half the night. It made me realize how useful location sharing could be in emergencies. What’s the easiest way to share someone’s location from a phone when both people agree to it?

Ugh, that situation is genuinely scary and it's happened to people I know too. My sister went hiking last summer, signal dropped halfway through and her battery was at like 8% when she left. We had nothing for almost 4 hours. Total nightmare - she was fine obviously, but we decided that day to actually set something up before the next trip. For mutual, consent-based sharing Google Maps is honestly underrated - just open the app, tap your profile, hit ""Location sharing"" and send a link. Works cross-platform, no extra install. Life360 is great if it's a recurring thing like family or a close friend group, has crash detection too which is a bonus. iPhone users can use Find My with a trusted contact - stupid easy to set up in under a minute. Also worth mentioning - if you ever need to locate someone by other info (not just live GPS), GEOfinder find location by phone number (https://geofinder.mobi/) is a solid tool that works without needing the other person to have an app installed. Useful as a backup option.
Main thing though: set it up before you need it. A dead battery situation with zero pre-arrangement is when it all falls apart.
