Hi everyone,

I’ve recently been trying to improve my typing speed in Spanish, but most typing websites seem to focus mainly on English. While searching for alternatives, I came across a project called Mecanografía, which looks like it was built specifically for Spanish typing practice.

From what I found, the project launched in 2026 in Salou (Tarragona, Spain) and aims to become a reference platform for Spanish typing tests and touch typing training. Since the team is based in Catalonia, the site also includes tools for Catalan typing practice.

Right now the platform offers about 20 different practice texts, and the developers plan to expand the library with new texts over time.

One thing I found useful is that when you start typing, the system automatically tracks several performance metrics in real time, including:

KPM (Keystrokes per minute)

Accuracy

Typing time

Skill level

Another nice feature is the ability to switch between Windows and Apple (Mac) keyboard layouts, so the on-screen keyboard matches the one you’re actually using.

The whole tool is completely free, which makes it easy to try out.

If anyone wants to take a look, here’s the site:

A few questions for the community

What tools do you use to practice typing in Spanish?

Do you think typing real texts helps more than random words?

What typing speed do you consider good or professional level?

Are there any other free typing test websites worth checking out?

Would be great to hear your recommendations and experiences!
