A couple weeks ago there was some discussion about the legality of hunting in Wisconsin with a "rim fire" rifle. I sent the following email to the Wisconsin DNR.
Mr. Loomans,
I am a member of an on-line forum <www.wilderness-survival.net/forums>.
There is an on going discussion concerning firearms for hunting. One of the other members states that it is legal to use a .22 magnum rim fire to hunt deer in Wisconsin.
After reading the on-line regulations several of us believe it is not a legal practice.
We try to provide helpful, accurate information on the forum.
Could you please provide me with your understanding of the law as it applies to deer hunting in Wisconsin.

I received the following email from Mr. Loomans.
No, it is not legal to hunt deer with rim fire rifles in Wisconsin. Attached is Wisconsin's Administrative Code where that prohibition is established.
NR 10.09 Guns, ammunition and other devices.(1) PROHIBITED METHODS. No person shall:
2. `Deer or bear hunting.' Hunt any deer or bear with any air rifle, rim-fire rifle, any center-fire rifle less than .22 caliber, any .410 bore or less shotgun or with ammunition loaded with full metal jacket, non expanding type bullets.
