Stopped in to say hi and catch up on my reading, hope everyone is doing good in these crappy times. My department is laying off 200 Deputies starting on Dec. 3rd and while it doesn't effect me it gets real close, so I went and got another job in the private security area with a company called Blackwater USA, did two months training in Moyock, North Carolina and in 35 days I leave for Qandahar Afghanistan for 6 months and come home for a 30 day break and then return for another 6 months. Not a bad contract for the money.
Nell, hey lil-sis I'ma send ya that money for the blackberry's pm me your address please.
How's the pass around knife going? Hope its working out, might come on and give a few of ya my email so when I'm over there I can still check in. Trooper is doing good as is the wife just not real happy right now with me leaving at the end of Dec.

I don't know if its for the best but with all the layoffs in my department 200 is the first round, what else can a guy do that was in the Army from 1983 to 1991 and a cop from 1991 to 2008... its bout all I know and the money is real good and I been tained and just completed Blackwaters training so... who knows.

Well i'll be on here 2morrow and all weekend to chat and say some goodbye's then I'll be on thru the month of Dec from time to time and on the 20th for a final farewell before heading over to Afghanistan. Got my personal kit completed and BW gives use just about everything else.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts, I will keep my head down and scalp intact, watch my six at all times and cover mine and my team mates azzes. For luck I kept the name Beowulf as a call on sign on our squad radios but we usually go by a number.
Rick sorry to say I will be taking a modern weapon... just seems to reload a lot faster :D and the knife I'm taking is the Seal 2000 and of course a K-Bar (wouldn't go without it) for those who asked what knife and I have and a winchester multi-tool in my pack. Bringing my own weapons cleaning kit but BW is not in short supply of any items. If I am able I will stop in and say hello, maybe give a sitrep on whats going on, actually printed out alot of desert survival info from here as a "just in case" and some of the funny postings so I can read them. Taking a few books for the guys and me, Michael Crichton's Eaters of the Dead, Tom Clancy's Without Remorse and Rainbow Six, James Patterson's Cross... Double Cross... Kiss the Girls... and Along Came a Spider, and of course my book Cross~Vampyre Slayer (How could I not) everything will be fine a the year will go fast I am sure.

OH YEAH!!!! And before I go I wanna say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the pack since I won't be here. I leave on Dec. 22nd (I know it sucks) so I cant stop in for the big party... I'm kinda thinking of it as a one year walkabout of living off the land desert style.

All I want for Christmas is one of them IRON MAN suits so I can walk thru my year unscathed, if anyone knows where I can get it let me know please.

From a fellow officer, good luck Beowulf, and be safe. You've got guts doing Blackwater. They're one helluva tax-free payday, but the pay is high because the risk is high. I think those guys are exposed to more danger than our active military. A guy who went through the academy with me did the Blackwater thing, and he got messed up pretty bad. It's still something I've been tempted to try over the years, but I only recently got married, and am disinclined to be away for that long. Still, I sorta envy you. I wish you every success!

Oh, P.S., love the SEAL 2000! It might be my favorite of the knives I own!
