I have measured the back pocket of Carhartt Logger Jeans. 5 1/2" X 6" and wonder if someone makes a container 5" X 6" (or 5" X 7") and about 1" deep....?
Looking to go outside the box thinking here, like maybe a tobacco pouch, or fishing fly container, etc. Not looking for a factory first-aid/survival kit pocket size.
Thank-you ........:)

Altoids tins, Sucrets tins - these are about 3X5. Would 2 work?

I know there are several different-sized plastic containers they sell at Bass Pro Shop or Cabelas. I have a small one I use for fishing, but it might be too big for your pocket. However, they probably make smaller ones.
Here's a link to one I found on Cabelas.com

Crash, I am dreaming of something heavier duty, I seem to remember some aluminum containers that are made for fitting into the pockets of Fly Fishing Vests, they were strong enough to sit on but maybe not stand on.

The old Army-Navy Surplus store had some heavier gage aluminum containers, about the right size, but they went out of business. I had bought one years ago, and built a Gun cleaning kit for my Pack pack.
Hopeak - You might try Best Glide. They have a mini mess box that is aluminum but a bit smaller than what you posted.

You might also try Under Walter Kinetics or Pelican micro case. They both make plastic water tight cases that are tough as nails.

cohiba mini cigars come in a nice pocket sized steel contanier
For awhile there, Player's were making tin cigarette boxes. I can fit fishing line, a few hooks and some snare wire in one. I'm not sure if they still make them, I always kept a couple around the house exactly for that.

Hope - stopped in Wally World today and looked at gift tins. The smallest they had on the shelf was about 5x5x2. They seemed pretty sturdy. If that works for you, I'll pick some up and send em your way.
I know you said pocket kit, but another option might be something like the Maxpedition Waist Packs. They just slip onto your belt. There are a lot of options, but this one is close to the size you were looking for. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=6&idproduct=161

Two thoughts; Plano makes several sizes of plastic fly boxes and you might visit a golf shop and look at some of the small bags they sell used to carry tees and misc. tools.

Now there's a challenge, Hope. Think you can pick one of those bears off with a 2 wood? You have enough room for a driving range. All you need are the balls and the club.

try using tins from variouse candies or mints maybe? fly fishing boxes would work to id imagine but youll find the stuff from plano made to hold plugs is a little more rugged than a fly box, just my two cents. lotta crushed boxes...this coming from a fly fisherman.

Ever think of taking metal the gauge you want and use a piano hinge or whatever, short pop rivets or solder. Shouldn't take anytime to make what you want, just an idea I would probably use a piece of flashing myself.

Part of my early marksmanship training included precision shot placement drills on my sister's Barbie doll's.
I took a typing class eons ago when I was in high school. There were only two guys in the class. One Friday night some loud mouth said something along the lines of, "What's the deal with you? Taking a class with a bunch of girls?"
I said, "Think about what you just said.";)

If it doesn't need to be hard shell (as I've bent and cracked my share of them) look into the SpecOps brand "Dry Cell On Board" . That is what I carry my basic kit in now and it works great. It actually comes with water proof bags to store stuff in. Check i out on their web site.

I've been thinking about purchasing a tri-fold leather wallet and puting in it some bare essential survival items. Fish line, hooks, small weights, flint striker, bandaids, small pocket knife, small AAA flashlight, small sewing kit and a few other small items. I think it would make a comfortable pocket survival kit. It sounds like you're looking more for a tin. Altoids tins might work for your needs but I thought I'd share my leather wallet idea with you and see what you think about it. Anyway, hope it helps.

The tin I used was from a very small leatherman tool I got while in Iraq. It's a perfect size for a survival tin. Also I have seen some wallets at the store that come in a tin container that would also work.

I use a few small zippered cases used for an iPod/GPS/GameBoy/Camera travel case. They are available at WallyWorld, Target or BestBuy... or just about anywhere that sells electronic stuff. There are several sizes available.
I've also used blood pressure cuff cases and electric razor cases for carrying little kits with me.

An aluminum cigarette case is just the right size to hold a survival kit and they cost $20.00 or less. they take ruged abuse, they are crush proof, and some of them extend in length. good choice there.

how about a hundred round .22lr plastic case. it would fit into your pocket and is a little bigger then the altoids tin... put the rounds in your pocket and fill the void with the kit... seems plausible to use...

I was thinking of something waterproof. I have seen at Meijer and other major camping stores (Gander Mtn) a hard waterproof plastic case. They also have heavy duty waterproof bags about the size you want. They cost about $15-20. Seems like if it wasn't full you could roll it up and make it smaller. Add more air if you want it to float.
Great for canoing or white water rafting.
