medicinal herbs for birds

Ok herb people and bird people out there, hey that kinda rhymes:
anyone know what to treat a raven with who might have been shot at?

I only saw today that this guy I've been feeding has a hole in the feathers of his right wing, also that wing sometimes hangs down a bit when he perches. Wouldn't know how else he'd end up with a hole in the feathers.
He can and does fly but isn't doing much of it.

So what herbs, and also what homeopathic remedies whould you give? I know that animals will go and eat and roll in the medicinal plants they need but since this one is only moving in a 300 yard radius, that leaves him pretty limited. I started putting yarro into his scrambled eggs, anything else?

wW I am not familiar with many herbal medicines would think anything with antibiotic type properties either internally and or topically applied would be beneficial. If you can handle the bird maybe pin it up for a while and let the wing rest and heal would be a good idea.

Hi WW. first you need to make sure that there isn't any infection settled in the wing. If you have any lactated ringers or a saline solutins you will need to flush the wound with a syringe several times daily. Do not let the bird have much access to fly. The wing will need to heal and flying will only put added stress on it. If it is a bullet wound there isnt much you can do for it without having a certified wildlife rehabber or vet look at it. If infected the vet can/may want you to give it some antibiotics. If its caused by a cat bite then that can be just as serious as the cat saliva has a bacteria that is toxic to birds. The fact that the wing sometimes hangs suggests that the hole (bullet) has perforated the wing bone and that the wing may have a fracture. I don't suppose you know how to wrap it in a sling??? It will need to be stabilized.
As for the diet. Ravens can eat just about anything. If its an adult then you can give it softened dog or cat kibble, mixed with egg (shell and all) make sure to boil the egg, peas, cooked beef, berries, minnows, canned fruit (no syrup) ect. If its a juvinile then the diet changes. Let me know if its this years baby.
Once the wing has healed, you cannot just let it go. he will need rehabing. You will have to build up the chest muscles as well as the wing muscles and that takes some time.
I will try and find a rehabber in your area.

that's really nice, thank you for all the info especially on the diet!
Please don't get busy looking for a rehabber, I have no way of getting anything out of here right now short of ordering a chopper, so this guy will have to make it here. Also I don't think there are any rehabbers in the Yukon.

But I'd love your input on a couple other points:
the raven is not as weak anymore as he was when I started feeding him on Sunday. My hunch is he's better off looking after himself than going through the stress of me trying to capture him (probably unlikely by now anyway, he flies higher up into the trees again) and then being roommates with myself and 4 dogs in a small cabin.
Where he's hanging out, and where I'm feeding him, is right down by the lake (still open). There's some spruce trees right on shore that he uses as shelter. So he's got food, water and a relatively safe roost all within about 6m. The hawk owl is not bothering him down there, only when he comes higher up where the cabin is.
He had been mostly perching down there over the last 5 days but today he flew around a bit more (circling over me when I came with the food). So I think both his wing and his strength are getting better. Plus he's getting curious, he came a couple times up to the cabin now, perching on a branch from where he could look in the window :)
So based on all that, I'd think he's better off without me capturing him; what do you think?

As to the diet:
I'm pretty limited with what I have here, he's mostly getting dog kibble and scrambled duck eggs. All the meat I have is canned moose meat, spiced, can that be bad for him at all, with salt in it??
I'm quite sure he's an adult, he's not huge but I couldn't see any pink streaks on the side of his beak and his tail feathers look pretty ratty.

We have a stockpile of homeopathic remedies, anything you can suggest to help heal a potential gun shot wound? If I mix some pellets into his scrambled eggs, that should work.

I was going going to suggest flushing with saline, and my wife, off the top of her head, suggested Herb Robert would be helpful, but that's all I got out of her at the moment 'cos she's on a mission doing something else.
I don't know if you call it something else in the USA but it's Herb Robert over here.

wW seems like go advice since the bird seems to be doing better . If the bird has a relapse IMHO I would intervene and help it . If the bird was shot then it is not a natural issue but man made and may take man to rectify.
