My name is Mike. I live in north eastern california in a small town called Susanville. Population about 12,000. There is no major city within 100 miles of here. Susanville is located at the eastern foothills of the sierra nevada mountains. A couple miles west and your in the forest, a couple miles east and your in the high dessert. It's kinda cool having 2 different playgrounds. I have lived in remote areas before, no electricity, hauling water and wood to survive. So I've roughed it more than many but we weren't living completely off the land, we went to the grocery store once a month. I have lived off the land for a few days once when i got stuck in the mountains on a fishing trip. Lucky for me there was a cabin near by and a stream so i was able to eat, drink and keep warm. This looks like a great site for survival tips. I'm very eager to learn. If anyone knows of a good book on edible plants of the sierra nevadas please let me know. Thanks

People from the city have saved money, sold their homes, bought one here for half the price plus social secuity and live fine fishing and hunting in the woderful wilderness. The same as the rest of us do here. Look, california to most does not seem like the ideal country living place to live. They think of cali as as San Fran or LA. There is plenty of Cali that is wilderness Here in Susanville we get snow and a person can not plant until June because of the frost. Our elevation is 4200ft. Doesn't sound like California does it?
