by hunters this week
the story of brandon crisp the teenager who ran away from home thanksgiving weekend ends tragically, he was found by hunters this tuesday, now police have said no foul play is suspected but waiting on autopsy results, i am quite sure they will come back with that he died of exposure we had a couple of days in the begining there where that area recieved a good bit of snow and high winds and now followed by spring like weather, maybe if he had been on these forums instead of the online gaming that he was participating in things might have been different, but can you imagine the panic in the darkness freezing to death calling for his parents to help, and no one there to hear his pleas- this is why i train and encourage others to do the same

Very sad story and all sympathy for his family, but, jrock is right, He ran away on his own. You suffer the consequences when you go out in cold weather, alone, and unprepared.

kids nowadays hade it too good for to long.
when i was 15, i had to do a grown man's work.
this kid could play games on an expensive set up.
he runs away when he is told to stop playing.
who is at fault? parents? society? himself? the government?

Oh without a doubt its society and the governments fault. How could anyone expect the parents to take the blame for it and the kid was only 15. Way to young to take responsibility.:confused: "said with as much sarcasm as I can muster"


Any time a child dies under these kinds of circumstances its obvious that the adults in said child's life failed him.:( "said with all the heart felt seriousness I could muster"

I am sorry for the families loss. It is a terrible thing to have to bury your child.

i'm sure the parents will forever question the decision they made that day, but also brandon made a decision to leave, either way it is a terrible outcome to this situation

I really feel for his father,I mean who of us has not helped a defiant kid pack a bag before??

Well in my case,I literally threw my daughters clothes out the window after I spent 2 days cleaning her room,and went in the next day and it was trashed yet again. But I have had the arguments over the lousy video games that they had,guess what did NOT get replaced after the house burned in May??

fear, the kids need to have some fear in their life. I was afraid of my mother and father. They didn't beat me, but I still had a fear. Nowadays the kids just don't care, they fear nothing.

I think its more respect than fear,kids simply do not respect their parents anymore,and a good deal of that I believe is because kids are not corrected like they used to be.

Allowing a child to throw a temper tantrum and go uncorrected because it is "just a phase" is not good,this is not just a phase that they get over,it will get worse if not corrected appropriately.

fear is not the answer. respect is the answer, discipline is needed, but even thru all that some kids still cannot be reached, i know that from personal experience, sometimes your just lucky to survive childhood then try to make your way as an adult

This is my first post, and I know very little about this story, and while it is tragic I feel that I should say, not all kids are like that, I myself am 17 and I do have respect for my parents and my grandparents. there is only one time I ever remember getting spanked, and that was by my grandpa (I don't remember why). So I honestly think that the form of discipline is not what makes the kid (or child if you prefer) respect/fear their parents, but how the parents treat them and talk to them that makes the difference and I don't mean "talk" as in telling them something, I mean "talk" as actually communicating with them like you would a spouse (I say spouse as an example), talking to them about their interests etc. I mean this in no negative way, everyone has their own way of parenting and that's their right, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, this is my own opinion and I hope no one took offense

No offense comicfan,how about heading over to the intro thread and telling us a little about yourself?

I agree to a degree with you on it's their choice how to raises their child,some poeple tend to be extremists even when it comes to raising their children,from the hands off type,to the the ones who are heavy handed,WE knows what I am talking about on that one,there is a balance here that some just cannot reach.

Some of you know that in my early teens I went to live with my maternal grandfather. I was a good kid in allot of ways but I had no discipline and was doing some of the same things other kids my age were doing. That first day at my grandparents house, grandpa sent me out to the shop to retrieve something. While I was looking for it I heard the shop door open and close. I looked up to see my grandpa taking a length of radiator hose off the wall. He walked straight up to me and proceeded to beat me with that piece of hose until I couldn't even cry any more. When he finished he told me that beating was the punishment for all the wrong I had done up to that point and for every wrong I would do under his roof. He then said "do not ever make me raise my hand to you again. Ever!" Before moving in with him, I respected him. After that beating I feared him too. Needless to say I did my best to never give him a reason to raise his hand to me. He and I became very close. With my grandparents influence I graduated high school and Joined the military and became my own man. Now I'm trying to be a constant influence in my grandsons life so I wont have to straighten him out when he is a teenager. However if he needs an attitude adjustment I wont like doing it, but!!!
