What’s Your Go-To Fire-Starting Method When Everything Is Wet?

We’ve all been there — cold, damp, and surrounded by nothing but soggy wood. Starting a fire in those conditions can make the difference between comfort and misery, or even survival.

So I’m curious to hear from everyone: what’s your go-to fire-starting method when everything is wet?

Personally, I’ve had the most success using cotton balls coated in petroleum jelly. I keep a few sealed in a waterproof bag inside my pack. Even if my lighter’s acting up, a ferro rod and one of those cotton balls usually gets a small flame going long enough to dry out some kindling. I also try to split larger sticks to get to the dry wood inside — Among Us (https://amongusfree.io) the inner heartwood often lights up faster than anything exposed to rain.

I’ve heard some folks swear by birch bark, dryer lint, or even hand sanitizer with a high alcohol content, but I haven’t tested them all in truly soaked conditions.
