I sold my shares in my company to my partner. i don't know what to do with myself. i felt relieved for about 20 minutes then i did not know what to do. i have been cooking and surfing the INTERNET. I'll need to get a job after a while but right now i feel i need to go for a walk, a long walk. I'm not sure what to do. i guess i am feeling a bit disorientated.

Sounds like you need to decompress a little. If you went from being partners in business to retired instantly it's kind of like running a marathon every day and then jumping into a swimming pool to slow down. Relax, take time to do what you love.

Build a chicken coop, get some chickens and a new comfortable lawn chair to watch them, and just kick back.

Crash, you sound like you have been through something like this. I haven't. i don't know what to do without a job. I think i know a place in the woods to go to for a while. To sit and think about who I'm.
Sit down and write out what you want to do and what you need to do. List out all the options you have and all the responsibilities you have to cover. Format it any way you want. The important thing is to sit down and do it. What you are really doing is developing a plan and putting yourself back in control of the situation. What you are feeling is a loss of control. A loss of comfort in your routine. By building a plan you put yourself back in control.

Career related - twice. When I retired from the military was the first. When the big company I worked for retired from me was the second. Now I'm doing something I enjoy and at the pace that I enjoy it. At this stage in my life, the pace is important to me.

Big life changes can make a large void for awhile, but in time you find plenty to fill your days. This is the greatest opportunity for growth in many areas of your life. Change is good, take advantage of it!

Change is good. And i agree it's a great opportunity for growth. I guess its such a weird feeling to not have the daily stress of running a small business, dealing with the customers, employees and vender's. I have almost no responsibility's in my life right now. I set things up like this so i could focus on the company. I have zero dept, no house maint, I lease in small community where everything is taken care of by maint staff. Not married, no children..........maybe i should work on that. No that would just get things all complicated again. I think a long walk in the woods would be a good start and i am thinking about going to Winter count in feb. I will have to get a job though, something really low key.

If you have the money, why not set up the business you always wanted, but didn't have the security to start.
My current career choice is based on 1) what I like to do and 2) what pays the most. I think I picked the right career because I'm not bored with it after 15+ years. Unlike my hobbies which I will do for 2-3 years, then change hobbies.
Although I have been raising tropical fish since 2005, I'm still not bored with that.
Although trashcat is not amused about the tropical fish thingy.

I have almost finished signing all the papers and such. And have decided to take a road trip to the the Grand gulch area of Utah. Its great place to be alone to think. Its very unlikely to see another person in the canyons especially this time of year. It will be a good chance to get away and think about everything. Rick i must have Missed something.

If you have the cash there are places to go, ladies to meet and things to do you never had time for. Been retired since 96 and I may take a short job now and then but nothing but a day or so. I was kinda lost a few times, but in real bad weather I would look out the window, laugh and go back to sleep. I am still trying to learn how I was able to have the time to go to work, got more to do now, no pressure and do what I want. I would strongly recommend doing what you want, I may have to cut out my afternoon nap just to catch up on my hobbies.
Bulrush's avatar is "trashcat". I'm sure the "cat" wasn't amused about the tropical fish. Okay, here's the paper and pencil. This is a picture of a cat and these squiggles are tropical fish. Now, cats like to eat fish and ............:D
