Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that enables surgeons to look inside the abdominal and pelvic cavities for diagnosis and treatment. During the procedure, a thin, telescopic instrument called a laparoscope, which has a camera and a light at its tip, is inserted through a small incision near the belly button. This camera projects real-time images onto a monitor, allowing the surgeon to see the internal organs without making large incisions.
