I think it would be better to start now and every day push a little more. Then you're used to the resistance. Push yourself, your community and your government.

I have come up with a general method for constructing these sorts of problems. Just follow these steps:

1) Choose four Natural numbers from the set {1, 2, 3, ...} and call them A,B,C,D. Ensure that AD - BC = 1. This may take some time, but I found it easier just to think of two non prime numbers that differ by one.
2) Create a triangle of base A and height B and another of base C and height D.
3) Placing triangle AB at the lower left and CD at the upper right will create a rectangular area at the lower right of area BC.
4) Placing triangle CD at the lower left and AB at the upper right will create a rectangular area at the lower right of area AD.
5) Note that the difference in areas between these two rectangular areas is exactly 1 (as AD - BC = 1 by design).
6) Design a tiled rectangle of dimensions B and C such that it may be reassembled into a rectangle of dimensions A and D such that there is a single square of length 1 on either side empty somewhere inside it. This is the trickiest part and the one for which I did not create a specific set of steps, short of cutting the rectangle into BC little 1x1 squares that may be reassembled at whim with a hole anywhere you desire - this techniques will always work, although you can typically do it with fewer pieces (like two in the original problem). It is not however always possible to do this with two pieces.
7) The problem is now trivial, just assemble with the triangles in the two different positions, with the rectangle and rectangle with hole assembled at the bottom right.

The original example has A=8, B=3, C=5 and D=2. Note that AD-BC does indeed equal 1. The '1' is significant in that it is the difference in area between the two rectangular areas - the size of the hole.

I worked out an example specifically for you Tony. I just thought that it was an excellent illustration of what is going on here. This particular example has A=2, B=1, C=1 and D=1. This is the smallest set of natural numbers which satisfies the constraint AD - BC = 1
