If you don't have a lid lifter for you dutch oven just snap a green twig in two leaving the break intact and functioning like a hinge. Slip one half of the twig through the ring on the lid until the "hinge" contacts the lid ring. Use the two halves to lift the lid. The twig will usually last for a couple of lifts so keep two or three handy.

If you don't have a cork screw available try using a 2 1/2 inch wood or dry wall screw and a pair of pliers or vice grips.

And the best for last. An alcohol stove using only field expedient tools. Enjoy!!
