Sorry Rick. I thought you had eaten a lot of chili or something.
I just got my Popular Science yesterday. They had a similar article where E.Coli bacteria are making diesel from sugar cane. It's a direct process: e. coli makes diesel in a vat of water, and the diesel floats to the top, and you put it directly in your vehicle.
Your article talks about gasoline, which is not diesel. Interesting that someone is attacking this issue from both the gasoline and diesel perspective.

If this proves viable, my concern is putting more food in our gas tanks.
We won't have to use corn any more to manufacturer "green" fuel. That would be a plus. I've never been a fan of ethanol. It's gets lower gas mileage and we still import it. We couldn't convert enough corn to make all the ethanol we would need. We import thousands of barrels a DAY from Brazil.

While it's true that corn would not have to be used, my concern would be that many current growers, seeing higher profits in the fuel production may change their crops. Look at how many rain forests are being destroyed in order to grow crops for the production of ethanol. That having been said, if it is possible (not sure from my reading of the article) to produce a crop where the "food" is eaten and the rest of the plant is used to produce fuel......now that has some promise IMO.

When you hear about biofuel, most people automatically start thinking of corn. But I recently went to a Biotechnology Life Science Sumit and one of their speakers spoke about biofuel. There are other plants that are being used to make ethanol that are more superior than corn. I can't remember exactly which plant they talked about most, but I believe it might have been switchgrass. There has also been work with types of algea to produce biofuel.
