View Full Version : Too Da**ned Fat to Die!

Rick

A federal appeals court and the Ohio Supreme Court have rejected arguments that a death row inmate is too obese to die by lethal injection. A three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit joined the Ohio Supreme Court in giving the go-ahead to execute Richard W. Cooey II, 41. Mr. Cooey, who is 5-foot-7 and weighs 267 pounds, is scheduled to die Tuesday for killing two University of Akron students in 1986. He would be the first person executed in Ohio since the end of a de facto moratorium on lethal injection that lasted more than a year. Mr. Cooey’s lawyers had argued that prison food and limited opportunities to exercise contributed to Mr. Cooley's obesity exacerbating problems for the execution team in finding a viable vein for lethal injection.

Perhaps they should use this. They should be able to find a vein this way.

Or they could chain his hands and feet to the floor, and make sure that when he leans over, he is only six inches from his food. He'll die from cardiac arrest within 24 hours! :D

So much for swift justice. What a waste of a life...that fat arse has spent more of his life in prison then he did as a free man.

But, death penalty discussion are in the political realm, and I don't come here to discuss politics. So, please lock this thread

does thinking of creative ways to 'off' the guy really count as part of the politics though jason? Cuz I was thinking that if he's slated for the death penalty and his lawyers concerned about his obesity, then just throw him in a room and lock the door and leave him there. Come back about six weeks later and both problems will be solved. He'll be skinny and dead.

Death Penalty ain't political it's a fact and fits into survival real well. Trax is right, conserve food by not wasting it on a human disposal. Since Ohio prison food is so good give his share to the local Mission and feed the homeless. Good Thinkin' Son, makes me proud.

Well thanks Pop, the other option is to fatten the guy up more and send him on one of Jericho's extreme survival courses that he was planning a few days back there, but I'm just not that cruel.

Just take all of the food with trans fat that is being banned, put it in a room, lock him in with it and let him finish the job.

Rick
10-10-2008, 06:26 PM
Okay. Someone explain that to me. How does death fit with survival? Isn't it sort of the opposite of what you want to do? I would hastily add that I'm not questioning the Mighty Coot. It's my own inadequacies I'll wrestling with. (Whew! Glad I remembered to throw that in.)

I won't run this by you one more time I will walk it slowly. WE you could have been on a road gang looking for roadkill or gnawin on the South End of a Northbound skunk, now that's what makes Ohio prison food good. Don't find many McDonald's wrappers that you can eat the cheese off in the ditches either. As for survival you folks don't understand TRAX master plan. He was trying to tell you how by putting the pig in a pen without any slop he would save the state overtime, clean needle, Dr.(who knows how much he would charge just to say dead). TRAX would have him so you could bury him in a posthole (save the state backhoe, dozer, cost of labor). All this good food and we know he wasn't gonna order burnt toast for his last meal either could feed many homeless and allow them to survive for weeks in bloated comfort. No more grease on windshields by "window washers" for change, happy commuters the list could go on and on. I just don't understand how you missed the genus of his thinking. If this plan works I am considering starting a company buying up dry wells and cutting them up and selling them for postholes. Franchise operation (limited openings for investors). The man is a true whale among minnows with his thinking.:D

This just goes to show that we are wasting too much money feeding inmates. Give them a pack of ramen noodles (0.10 each) or a bowl of rice for each meal and let them suffer like they should!!!!

if people break the law and get caught then they should face the concequences like a man, but that being said how many people on death row have been aquited after dna proved they did not do it, how many people were sent to prison doing something that they beleived in, if someone very close to you had been raped or was geing attacked and you jumped in and put the guy on life support and got 3 to 15 years for it are you a bad person?what about the two border guards who shot the illeagal drug dealer and now are doing time, 90 percent of the inmates will get out some day if you treat them inhumanley they will get out and take it out on innocent people, now that being said most of the folks inside belong there but some of them are in a cycle they cannot get out of all i am saying is look at it from that side

the one thing that I want to add to my earlier comments has been clearly pointed out by Wareagle, proof! Make damn sure that the guy is guilty before any of the above! DNA evidence is so available nowadays and we have one bad bad record here in Canada for locking people up for life sentences and finding out in the last bit of their sentence that they're innocent...then there's the lawsuits. Of course, you don't have to worry about the lawsuits with the death penalty.

I just have a hard time believing rehabilitation works. We have been trying it for a number of decades now and our prisons hold more folks today than ever before. I know there are a lot of factors that play into that but a lot of them are repeat offenders. I think the federal penitentiary at Marion, Illinois has the right idea. No one wants to go there. Probably a reason for that.

wareagle69
10-12-2008, 07:22 PM
of course our prisons hold more look at the population increase and mandatory minimun sentences. how many members do we have here rick? did you know that one in five of us have done time? how many people here do you respect for their knowledge but if you found out that they was an ex con would that change? nell knows a bit about me i have told her a little about my past when i was 14 i did two years in reform school for mosty what i would call rebellion but either way i probably deserved it then after the army refused to help with my anger problem when i got home cuz of the guilt i carried i was sentenced to 3 to 15 years for beating a guy so badly that he will never walk normaly again got out in a year and almost went back immedialty cuz his friends wanted revenge and once agian i defended myself but the judge was leinent thats when i moved to arizona to get out of the pattern and got into the bullriding and cage fighting, now some here like me and some here don't but does this change what you think of me? rehabilitation does it work i dunno ask beowulf about, this place, i did time at south eastern correctional facility also called lancaster we called it a gladiater school cuz of how violent it was, want to know what scared me, it was how comfortable i felt there it was like being back in the rangers (to a degree) but what i did carried respect with it,thats why i had to break the cylce cuz it was comfortable. what are your thoughts on this now?

thanks nell you know where you and trax are in my heart
the ponit of my sharing though was for some to see a differnet side of crime and punishment while some desreve to be locked away for life, there is for each person there a human story, if you treat them all like savages then savages they will become, have any of you seen the story of seabiscuit do you recall when they were using him as a training horse teaching him to lose to give the other horses confidence then when it came time to race him he did what he was taught to do.....lose.....point is what?

No changes, WE and I don't know the answer to your question on rehabilitation. I suspect that wasn't it. I suspect it was a change you made in yourself rather than a change the system made in you but that's just a guess.

It's hard these days to have friends and not have some of them been incarcerated. As you said, 1 in 5. I don't know the numbers but suspect that's probably pretty close. I just look at the repeat rate and wonder if there isn't some way to deal with the problem a whole lot better than we're doing. I also have several friends that are corrections officers and the stories they tell make you wonder who's running the zoo.

WE - your past doesn't change my opinion of you at all. You are still somebody that I call friend. I truely believe that with a few exceptions we are where we are because of the choices we have made in our lives. How does that relate to rehabilitation? Well, some individuals make the decision to chose to make changes in their lives, while others do not. So as far as being rehabilitated....like everything in life, it's a choice of which path we choose to walk.

The cost is much higher for a person on death row. I've read estimates that the cost is upwards of a million US for all the appeals that are filed. The government has to defend against them and that costs money.

It would probably be a lot cheaper if we took away the weights, color TV, basketball courts, ice cream carts, magazines and running tracks. But that would probably be offset by the cost of leg irons, chains, heavy metal balls and the rack. At least it would in my world.
