Hello all,

I'm originally from southeast MA, but have lived in several places other regions like Tidewater, VA, panhandle of FL, and Orange County, CA.

I like to be outdoors, though not (often) to the point of rolling in the mud. I like to know the minimum gear I need to get by when I'm off the road or in case I get injured. It's all part of the 'be prepared' thing.

As the years roll by, I get more interested in research and filtering out the BS and shiny or sharp gadgets. Sure, I like a new toy now and then, but I figure I have to carry it to make it useful.

My best 'survival' strategy is staying out of debt. I haven't carried any in well over a decade. It makes life a lot easier if/when I do decide I want or need something, and it's one less thing to worry about if sh*t hits the fan.

Most of my outdoor experiences over the last several years has been in hiking sections of Appalachian Trail for a few days at a time. The plus side of that is that the whole back room is one big bugout bag for me and the gal - we've each got up-to-date and functional gear, know how much we can carry, and have a section or two of closet of homemade and commercial dehydrated food that gets cycled through during the year.
