Yukon - what do you want to use it for?

Yukon, you get what you pay for. I read Tactical Knives and the editor bought a knife set from one of those TV shopping networks. There were about 20 knives and only 3 didn't break.
Gerber makes the same knife for around $40.00.

For ten bucks I'd say it'd probably last as long as you'd expect a ten dollar knife to last. It's probably hard to sharpen, keep sharp, and I'm guessing it isn't full tang. Of course I'm not a knife-guy so I could just be wrong.

You get what you pay for, for the most part. Of course, that is why there is the Cheaper Than Dirt Rough Use Knife. Great knife test.
However, that is a true statement for the most part.

Gerber copy, worth more as scrap. I would be laughed out of the "good ole boys" club if I carried that.

If your looking for something in the ten dollar price range go to some garage sales. I picked up a Vietnam era Kabar at a garage sale. It is real nice. You could also find a good kitchen knife and make a sheath for it. I did that with a Chicago butcher knife and it's the one I use the most. The point is, you want quality not looks and you don't have to spend alot for it.

Buy it and test it. Then tell us what you think of it. It's pointless to ask anyone on this forum what they think of a particular knife. If you like then buy it. If it turns out to be a p.o.s. then throw it away and try something else.

I rely on my knife to perform as a chisel, hatchet, carving, and dressing fish and animals.
I chose BUCK 692. The blade is 1/4 inch thick and 41/2 inches long.

I actually have that knife. Have had it for a couple of years, but never used it. Mine seemed decent for the price. Meaning that I have seen more expensive ones that would not as good of quality. If I had to choose between this knife and a Mora though, l'd pick the Mora. The Mora isn't as big or mean looking, but they have been proven to work through the ages, unlike this no-name brand. But hey, with both of them being around $10 a piece, why not try to compare the two...

I'd save the money you would be better off either saving up for a Sog, Kabar, or similiar or buy yourself a mora it's a cheap knife, but very high quality in a very usefull size and razor sharp to boot, and it says cast pommel which is a warning cast don't belong anywhere in a knife description if it's worth buying just my opinion

Yukon - that would not be my choice in a knife. What exactly are you looking for, just a large knife, particular style....?

IMHO, if you're going to spend that much, Cold Steel is the best FACTORY made knives for the money. As I've posted on other threads, I have more then my fair share of CS knives, and they have NEVER let me down.

No. But if you are intent on buying a fixed blade from that site, I would recommend the Ontario Air Force Survival knife, because of the price, size, steel, etc... But there are other sites that have a much better selection of knives to chose from as well.

Yukon - remember that the bottom line is that a knife is a tool. Get the type that you need for what you want to do with it....and yeah, we've all probably bought some tools that we wouldn't buy again.

If a 140 dollar knfe is in your price range search around. If your broke like me wait for a sale but that first knife just screams "cheap Rambo knife" IMHO

Yukon, that Gerber is called the Steadfast. There's a review in the new issue of Tactical Knives Jan/09.

Yukon, I don't buy stainless anymore. It's just crap. I got my first Mora this year and I like it. If the Mora rusts a little, I simply scrub it with steel wool, and no more rust.
For $10 it's probably an especially bad grade of crap.

I have a Buck Knife, it was expensive by my standards ($80.00} and they are so easy to loose, one slip next to a pond or creek, and its "see ya"! I would suggest that you get a knife that serves your needs, considering that it may be a throw away.
