Is it just me or are pizza delivery guys getting older?

Today the guy that just deliveredthe wings and pies to my staff must've been in his 70's!

It's pretty sad. Everywhere though. Low wage jobs to supplement their dwindling Social Security/OAP. Fighting over the last cans of Alpo on sale at Wal-Mart. Guess they shouldn't have blown apart extended families, else their kids would want to take care of them. If you talk to them a lot are kinda clueless.

I've been told by people pushing 70: 'I have a right to retire. Retirement is at 65'.

I'm like: "Ohhhhhhh really? Who is going to pay for your retirement?".

Them: 'I'm 65. I can retire'.

I tell them: "Retirement is a fiction invented by Government in 1933. All before that in human history people worked until they dropped dead".

They don't want to hear it. Like someone just told them Santa Claus is make-believe. They just can't/won't understand that the option for retirement is not driven by your birthdate. It's an option made available by your net worth.

Bragg, people collecting Social Security can only make a limited amount of money on the side before tax ramifications kick in. So they don't mind taking a low paying job (especially if it includes tips - tax free) to supplement their income.

Often with older folks it isn't all about the money. Talked with an older gentleman that was bagging groceries. Since his wife passed, he just wanted to get out of the house and meet people.

I've seen a lot of people around here retire, and within a year, they're dead. So I guess some of them may be working because they're scared if they don't it could happen to them.

By the way, my father is one of them as I described above, I hear from him every 12-16 months asking for money when a bump in the road happens.
