Last year i took a class at Boulder outdoor survival School. I did not feel particularly challenged but most of the students who had little outdoor experience did. I had a good time and meet some nice people. I enjoyed my time there except for the talking stick (lets all sit around and talk about our feelings) not my style but i understand why they do it. To check if anyone is starting to freak out. I talked to Cody Lundin a few months ago and decided to take his Ultimate Abo course. I have been wanting to learn more primitive skills. I do study plants and tracks on my own but i feel that being taught by an experienced person would really deepen my knowledge. My question to the Wolf Pack is have you ever taken a survival / primitive course and was it helpful.
Thanks, Jim

Not yet, but I have a wish list. Tom Bronw Jr., Madisen Parker, and Cody Lundin.

I was sent to aircrew survival and resistance training in the Air force. The main thing it taught me was how to be a pain the the posterior of a captor. It wasn't fun but it was interesting.

A friend of mine has taken several courses with Tom Brown and plans on retiring teaching kids outdoor skills. I have not heard of Madison Parker. Who is he?

Oh By they way, he says the ticks are so bad at Tom Browns school that students keep duck tape rolled up sticky side out on two fingers to pick them off each other, another great use for duct tape!

Mr. Parker is a former SEAL in Marianna, FL who teaches jungle survival and primitive living. He's also under contract with the Navy to teach the SEAL's jungle survival. He makes a sling shot that he hunts white tail with, and from the pics on his web site, it works.

You can hunt anything with a slingshot. Being successful is another story.

Just wondering I saw one of his videos from like the 60's and he looked really old.

He's fifty eight years old. you might be confusing him with someone else. In the sixties he would have been about your age. My personal opinion is that he has some problems with self respect but that's only my opinion.

When I told my wife about taking a deer w/ a sling shot she said " I don't believe it. I hope it didn't suffer too much".
Good point.
In a survival situation of course, do as you need to survive.
Considering the circumstance, it was too much show boat for my taste.

I studied with Mors Kochanski, author of Bushcraft and although these days he only teaches a few course per years take one if you can.
