The America we've known for the last 40 years or so is changing rapidly, and it isn't coming back. Most of my predictions are in the process of becoming reality. I'm trying to understand what is coming after this all sorts itself out:

Smaller homes, more fuel efficient vehicles, less military adventurism, increased use of coal and natural gas, a return to "true" values, a renewal of family ties, respect for frugality, return of the rails, diminished pensions, nationalized healthcare (without the fluff & options), decreased SS benefits, more eating at home, less flamboyant & costly vacations, cooperation, sobriety, family gardens, wood stoves, playing cards and board games, popcorn, God and church first, staying married, less tolerance of crime, hunting, fishing, revulsion of violent rap music, etc. etc.

or......

In your dreams.

When the gravy stops flowing, this craphole is going to turn into a slaughter fest.

Cheney: "The American lifestyle is not negotiable" ...

Oh how true, just not the way he expected it to be true. Hunger and loss of cable TV is where I place the demarcation line for these people. Collectivist/statist scum love to cite the NYC blackouts as an example of peaceful and civil people are and work together and act like a big giant "family" in times of crisis. Except for the fact that those people knew the lights were coming back on. What happens when this market crashes, or there is a terror attack (false flag) or some plague sweeps through? A situation where NO ONE can predict the bottom, or a situation where no one can predict if there will ever be recovery. The absence of certainty and the prevalence of uncertainty is the catalyst for chaos.

That loving neighbor will work with you through a flood, through a storm, a fire, a power outage because they know life hasn't changed. It only hit a bump in the road. When that loving neighbor sits down and thinks long and hard about the consequences of serious post-crash breakdown, they won't be so helpful. They'll probably be slitting your throat and taking your stores.

Everything in American culture is set up for a total breakdown of civility. A complete lapse into barbarism and savagery. The opposite of what most claim. This emotionally-detached, emotionally disturbed and dysfunctional society is NOT the kind that is going to go back to something functional. A broken engine doesn't repair itself. It only breaks down more.

As you said on the positive side, families and communities will work together as in the old days. There will not be any room for slackers, drunks or druggies. You would either do your share of support or move on. Criminals would be delt with harshly. I doubt there would be repeats. Small local businesses would come back because who could afford to drive to a big town with a mega mall store. Gardens will be back even for the city dwellers. Canning and preserving the harvests. Except for loosing my job it sounds like a more meaningful life.

SO long as we dont fall into the "Salem" Whitch Hunt government, something like that may have good benefits. It would be hard to give up those LATTE and Pastry breaks.

My guess is a continuance of the same trends we have been witnessing over the last decade or two.

1.) A stronger federal government and the creation of a police state. You are already seeing this currently with the war on drugs, all time high of incarceration rates, and as I earlier put it: more effective crowd control measures.

2.) A disintegrating middle class. More rich and more poor. Fewer middle class. Look at the bankruptcy laws that were put into place; they were a pre-emptive measure. Heck even the current wall street/AIG bailout has nothing in it for the homeowner and is another massive transfer of wealth from the public tax accounts to the ultra wealthy. They fully understand what is going to happen. Detroit is the model for the new American city. The urban areas are a mix of the underemployed and the criminal element. The underemployed will serve as cheap sources of labor while criminal class will act as mercenaries.

3.) Forget about living on farms in some Madmax reality where gold and lead are the only measures of wealth and power. The government is about control and will not allow anyone off the social grid. Everything will be integrated and controlled. Currencies may be replaced (i.e. Dollar to Amero to whatever) but the population will be monitored and controlled and laws will be enforced. You can't even get to Canada these days without a passport.

3.) The small business owner and the working person will be taxed to death. Slave labor.

4.) Everything about you will be monitored: your driver's license will have RFID, your television choices will be monitored, all of your financial transactions and purchases will be stored and mined as well as emails and cell phone calls.

5.) There will be more options to choose from on cable TV and with the new digital rules going into effect will allow for more careful discernment on what you watch and how you watch it. Eventually - just like in 1984 - the government will be able to watch you from your own home.

A nice little list for you all:

"9/11, your Constitutional rights have been systematically dismantled:

1. USA Patriot Act - A 342 page document presented to Congress one day before voting on it that allows the government access to your bank and email accounts, as well as your medical and phone records with no court order. They can also search your home anytime without a warrant. http://epic.org/privacy/terrorism/hr3162.html

2. USA Patriot Act II - This one allows secret government arrests, the legal authority to seize your American citizenship, and the extraction of your DNA if you are deemed a potential terrorist. http://w2.eff.org/Censorship/Terrorism_militias/patriot-act-II-analysis.php

3. Military Commissions Act of 2006 - Ends habeas corpus, the right to an attorney, and the right to court review of one's detention and arrest. Without this most basic right, all other rights are gone too since anyone can be detained indefinitely. Now anyone may be arrested and incarcerated and nobody would know. http://www.loc.gov/rr/frd/Military_Law/MC_Act-2006.html

4. NSPD 51 - A directive signed by George W. Bush on May 9, 2007, that allows the President to declare martial law, effectively transforming the U.S. into a dictatorship with no checks and balances from the Legislative or Judicial Branches. Parts of this directive are considered classified and members of Congress have been denied the right to review it. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070509-12.html

5. Protect America Act of 2007 - Allows unprecedented domestic wiretapping and surveillance activities with a reduction in FISA court oversight. Probable cause is not needed. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/08/20070806-5.html

6. John Warner Defense Authorization Act - Signed by George W. Bush on October 17, 2007, this act allows the President to declare a public emergency and station troops anywhere in America without the consent of the governor or local authorities to "suppress public disorder." http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?tab=summary&bill=h109-5122

7. Homegrown Terrorism and Radicalization Act - Passed overwhelmingly by Congress on October 23, 2007, is now awaiting a Senate vote. This act will beget a new crackdown on dissent and the Constitutional rights of American citizens. The definitions of "terrorism" and "extremism" are so vague that they could be used to generalize against any group that is working against the policies of the Administration. In this bill, "violent radicalization" criminalizes thought and ideology while "homegrown terrorism" is defined as "the planed use of force to coerce the government." The term, "force" could encompass political activities such as protests, marches, or any other form of non-violent resistance. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h1955/show

Yes, it is certainly being set up for a big take over the USA. It is the oldest trick in the book - create a disaster or threat of disaster then suspend rights and detain people who are "threats" (actually, potential freedom fighters) in the name of national security. Adolph Hitler did just that, and fooled alot of people into thinking he was working in their best interest.

You can bet forums like these are being closely watched and some of us have been marked as potential threats to a take over and suspension of our rights as Americans.

A government must fear its populace or the government will inevitably overstep its bounds and dictate rather than serve. Thomas Jefferson warned us about this, and it is exactly what is happening.

You can expect continued loss of rights and continued attacks on our right to bear arms.
