A Wall Street Journal columnist has advised people to "start stockpiling food" and an ABC News Report says "there are worrying signs appearing in the United States where some … locals are beginning to hoard supplies." Now there's concern that the U.S. government may be competing with consumers for stocks of storable food.

"We're told that the feds bought the entire container of canned butter when it hit the California docks. (Something's up!)," said officials at Best Prices Storable Foods in an advisory to customers.

Spokesman Bruce Hopkins told WND he also has had trouble obtaining No. 10 cans of various products from one of the world's larger suppliers of food stores, Oregon Freeze Dry.

If you follow that out it goes to Mountain House Foods and their site still says 5-7 day delivery so I don't know how accurate the article is.

Isn't it interesting (or maybe it's marketing) that a spokesman for a company that sells canned butter seems to put a panic spin on the situation, then a link directly to purchasing canned butter from them is provided (and guess what...it's available). I'm betting on marketing.

besides, i wouldn't want to be the one in the neighborhood who has all the food. one person with several guns can't beat a mob of dozens of hungry folks with more guns.

OK, Uncle Coot is gonna give you a true situation that had yours truly in the middle of a stockpiling situation. Late one afternoon in Washington, DC yours truly dropped a 300+ lb EXIDE battery, and NO it was on a lift. I had a room covered with acid and all I could find was a small bag of lime. My brain kicked in and I remembered a Safeway one street over so I made a mad dash
(walked) over, grabbed a buggy and started filling it with baking soda. I had one buggy full and was working on the next and last when a nice older (I was young back then) lady saw what I was doing and came down the aisle and tried to take the full buggy from me. I fought her off(scars still show) until the manager came back and held her and tried to explain why I took all the baking soda while I headed out the door yelling charge it ! I made it back and saved most of the concrete but I created a dreaded stockpiling situation. Same thing would happen today if someone ran into a supermarket and began to fill buggies with a staple, say flour. I would place a small wager that the person could create a run on flour when folks saw them scarfing it up. Shortages change from artificial to real when everyone wants theirs and wants it now. Now see if you can reason out the moral of this example, and if you could have seen my rear end when the boss got there I bet a run on raw hamburger would have also started.:eek:

to the hearings: a big farce, since neither gw nor cheney have any leeway to make decissions.
they are nothing but mouth pieces of the likes of perle, bronfman, rosenzweig a.s.o.

btw. why is a alberta guy concerned what is going on south of the 49th?

Back in the early 70's during the gas crunch, Johnny Carson (or so we were told) made a joke about the next big shortage being in toilet paper. Three day's later, you couldn't buy a roll in Florida. My Dad, had a few small 7-11 type stores, was ordering 40 cases a week for a while, and lucky to get one. I think it took about a month for the people to get their heads on straight, that it was only a joke.

You ever been away from the continental US Stoner? You seem to have no idea what the impacts of what happens in your country has on others. Canada and the US are each the other's biggest trading partner and the 49th parallel is the busiest border on the planet. Man if Uncle Sam sniffles, Canada catches a cold.

oh man, what a dangerous topic to wander into!

I heard earlier this year that military personnel in Texas were being directed to get coupons and the directed to another location to pick up 'food supplies'. Don't know how real that was, as of course the person bringing it forward said there was a NDA signed and they felt it was important enough to let others know.

As for impeachment, what a freakin joke. What is this trend of impeachment towards the end of terms? What happened to getting the boot at any time you no longer are serving the purpose of the US people? Clinton was impeached eh? Right?

Who would be next to control? Would it be Cheney? That's SCARY.

I honestly wouldn't be suprised if this admin did not find a way to halt the Nov elections, congress no longer has the power to declare war if I recall correctly - there's been alot of rights handed over in the name of 'freedom' because of 'terrorists'....and the latter definition by the government is anyone that poses a danger to anyone else.

Oh government...raw nerve with me, I've spent the first portion of my life not being involved and letting these guys run the world, now I've woke up and see what's gone down since 911 and I'm not happy with the entire system. Now I learn as much as I can and keep looking for the answer, I know what it is - it's called a revolution and that's the only thing that can bring about the change needed.

Sorry for the rant.

An article in the San Francisco Business Times said that the FDIC is worried about the reporting on Internet blogs. They'd rather keep the information about the troubles in the banking system out of the news. Sheila Bair, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., summed it up like this after the run on Indymac:

"The blogs were a bit out of control. We're very mindful of the media coverage and blogs in controlling misinformation. All I can say is were going to continue to stay on top of it. The misinformation that came out over the weekend fed a lot of depositors' fears."

What I post is "Survival" in the truest form. (IMO) I just point things out and let you all decide what you want to do with it.
