1. Why yes, I own several. Feel the breeze!
2. Where can I get one?
3. Whatever floats your boat and doesn't sink mine. Please keep yer legs crossed.
3. Ack! Man in a Skirt!
4. hellllooooo!!!! Brokeback Postman anyone?

All in good fun, ladies & gents. No offense to the Scots - if so, I'd be talking about Scottish cuisine.
What say you to the Utilikilt?

We had a post on this already, but that is not a kilt its a skirt. A kilt is a mens celtic irish and scottish garment made or 100% wool, 6 to 8 yards of it and in a set tartan pattern.
Once again America has bastardized another culture, I'm irish and we have kilts and that is not a kilt, American rip off.

sorry for the re-post.
I heard the story on NPR about a mailman trying to get uniform approval for the US Postal Service.

I asked permission from the wife unit to get one. She said only if I mow the lawn in it on a day when all my neighbors are around :D

ehhhh - call me a coward

No need to make a crack about a boy girl wearing a dress. I mean, come on. It's just so easy. Truth be told, I wasn't put off so much with the dress as I was him wearing panty hose!

I tried to get the okay from the wife to wear a kilt years ago. Researched the family tartan, yeh, I'm not just Italian and Russian, mothers side has Scots and Irish.

Wish she would have given me the ultimatum to wear it cutting the grass. She knows, in a heart beat. She once said that if I was such a big hunter, I'd go chase wild hogs nekked with a butter knife. Woman, would not let me out the door.

A kilt would be awsome.

It seems to me that the (U.S.) postal service would opt for something that is all american instead of stealing cultural items? from other parts of the world. How about good ole American Jeans (and those being Levi's to boot)?

the U.S. postal service has a official tartan registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority, it is tartan

No.: 4166

Many departments of the federal government , and all U.S. military services including the coast guard have officially recognised tartans.

I do not find this un American at all!

Incidentally, a great kilt is a excellent piece of survival wear.

America, Alba agus Erin gu brath!

My older brother used to research this stuff apparently these are the tartans I'm qualified to wear. First one's Clan Matheson apparently I'm related to them, second one is Black Watch, which was me Da's regiment but is also some kind of national Canadian tartan so anyone can wear it.

Beo

Yep Beo, the one I posted is a dress regimental tartan. The one you posted is the original. I emailed the regiment and asked them about it and that's when they said anyone in Canada could use it, which I kind of disagree with and I think the regiment probably does too.

Crash: he must have ccw huh? I don't see a gun.

Yea, Scotland is Alba in Scots Gaelic, but pronounced Alpa.
So "Alba gu brath" is pronounced "Alpa ga bra" :)

I had this kid working for me a couple of summers ago who used one of those daytripper kind of books that has everything under the sun in it and is about the size of a small Bible. He was at the bank cashing his paycheck and one of the tellers asked him "is that your 'murse'?" So he answered "Yep, wanna see my manties?"
