Frying in Arizona

Hi all. I thought I would drop in and do the introduction thing.

I am 36 years old, married, with one child (a boy who is 8, and will be 9 in October)

I really enjoy the outdoors, but I have lived near the Phoenix AZ area for almost 21 years. Right now there just isn't much we can do outside because of the heat.

My son is a video game junkie, and my wife has never spent a night in a tent in her life. Her idea of "camping" would be renting a cabin in the mountains. She is up for trying, so I bought a nice three man tent (Big Agnes Parkview) and we are going to start slow.

Anyway, I am the lead singer in a band, and love classic Mustangs. My current project (which is 95% done) is a 1970 Mach 1 in Acapulco Blue.

We also have a 97 Jeep, and a 99 Ford ranger, both 4x4.

Right now we are currently working on two different survival packs (one large, and one medium) and can't wait for the weather to cool off!

Usually up until about July 15th or so it is pretty dry. However now we have the monsoon season upon us, and the dew point is in the upper 50's with humidity in the 30-40%. That might sound like a dry heat to the Florida guys around here, but when temps hit 115-120, ANY amount of humidity is just brutal.

Supposed to be 121 today...HIBERNATE. ;)

Flagstaff is cooler isn't it? You could take a week-end up there. And...the Grand Ditch north of there. In 4 hours you could be in one of the most beautiful spots on earth and having a great time AND be cool. You just have to get out of the bowl and cool down. Welcome!!:D

yes rick it is much better in flag usually 85 and 10% humidity problem is everyone heads out of town on firday the 17 can be quite busy

My wife used to live in Arizona. Her cousin recently sent some pictures of themselves riding some dune buggies in the desert. It looked like fun. I start to sweat when it gets above 70. I probably just die the first day.

Flagstaff is cooler isn't it? You could take a week-end up there. And...the Grand Ditch north of there. In 4 hours you could be in one of the most beautiful spots on earth and having a great time AND be cool. You just have to get out of the bowl and cool down. Welcome!!:D

War Eagle is correct. The weekends bring the Phoenix folks out and it get's cramped. I hate camping when I bump elbows with someone I don't know.

I did however discover a canyon that is supposed to be fairly remote and up in the high country near Williams AZ (population 5000) so I am off this weekend to check it out.

I thought we were building a fence to keep them out...oh wait, that's OLD Mexico. Ah screw it. I am just going to sleep in my back yard...ain't no one going to try to take over that. Besides, at 115 degrees, it will truly be a survival situation.

i remember times when i would head north of flagstaff up the 89 just before the wupaki national monument rd which is on the right, there is a road on the left can't recall the number but it heads all the way thru to the 180 but there was times i couldn't find a place to park in a national forest cuz so many campers and rv's
