nuclear winter??

i hear alot of discussion about bieng prepared and im all for this, and even the long term situation...

but if there was a shtf situation. the survivors would last maybe until the first signs of the "long winter".

sediments,ash,debris will be airborn and block out the sun effecting the ecosystem,fauna,andforests in EVERY way imaginable.

makes me think about the ice age...even during the ice age there was some tropical or sub tropical places on earth right???

You bet there was. The equatorial regions are believed to have been relatively stable during the ice ages. That's based on foraminifera and of oxygen isotopes preserved in ocean sediments. (itty bitty marine animals and "stuff" that can tell scientists the temperature because they can't live outside a certain temperature range).

Two recent periods you might want to research are:

1. 1816 is known as the year without a summer. You can do some research on it if you choose. Mankind is pretty darned resourceful and some of the inventions of the day were dictated by the need to mitigate the effects of extremely cold and wet conditions as well as devastated food crops.

2. The Little Ice Age occurred from the 16th century to the mid 19th century.

Whether it's solar activity, volcanic activity, a break down of the mid Atlantic conveyor or some combination of all three, there is a good chance we'll get to experience some really cool weather some time in the future.

true story last week i was doing primitve day at the eagles nest(see thread) and kept thinking man this ain't primitve enough like how do ya open a can of beans w/o pooching your knife of course back in the day beans didn't come in a can so i guess its kind of like the chicken and the egg ain't really a primitive way to do it
