is anyone in the stock market buisness,if so whats the best thing to do.i dont want to lose lose it,dont want to take it out and be taxed to death.

Hillbill - I'm not sure that a forum filled with people that you don't know is the best place to get financial advice.............Survival advice on how to keep yourself alive in an emergency is fine, but financial advice.....:cool::cool:

Hillbill - I was attempting to make a joke - ya know - don't take financial advice, but do take advice on how to save your life....Awwww never mind. There are a few on here that can probably offer up some advice, but like with anything you'll need to check it out for yourself.

id say a lot of people are trying to figure what next,i always try to diversify my efforts because i live by murphys law and are seldom surprised,im not big on saving a lot of money just have been trying to ready for retirement in 11 years in were still speaking the kings english.

That's an easy question....
Do the opposite of what I do and you will be just fine.
Hillbill - You need to assess your risk tolerance. How much can you afford to loose and how old are you? (rhetorical questions) There is an inherent risk investing in any commodity so you need to be prepared to loose anything you invest. It does not matter what you invest in, the risk will always be there. The younger you are the more easily you can recover from a financial loss. The older you are the more stable (and less risk) you want to expose yourself too.
You can mitigate some of the risk in the market by investing in mutual funds rather than individual stocks, which is a huge risk. You also want to diversify your mutual fund holdings across several classes such as High Cap, Small Cap, International, Etc. That way, if one class performs poorly, another will generally perform well offsetting your risk. Right now, International (particularly Asia) is the up market.
Dollar Cost Averaging is the act of investing a set amount of money consistently at each period. That could be each payday, each month, each quarter or whatever period you choose. Most folks will invest a fixed amount each payday. The advantage to this form of investment is when the market is low, as it is now, you can buy more stocks for the same amount of money. When the market is high you buy fewer shares. However, by spreading your investment over multiple periods you reduce the risk of a loss after a single purchase (I hope that makes sense).
Folks think the stock market is a bad investment right now. The truth is that it's a great time to invest. If WalMart had a 30% off sale everyone would beat the doors down to buy up everything. When Wall Street does it everyone says it's a bad risk. The truth is now is the time to buy while prices are low!
The best way to invest is through your company's 401K plan if they offer one. They generally match funds at some level so it's like free money. In addition, the investment is taxed deferred until you draw it out, typically at 59 1/2.
Roth IRAs are the next best vehicle. Again, they are tax deferred.
If you have a significant amount of money to invest then I would suggest a financial planner get involved. You can ask around and find one you trust and one that has a good reputation.

I check mine online every night and cry myself to sleep. It took a dozen years to find a broker I feel comfortable with and I still don't trust him completely. The market has been up and down but it is my major source of income. You have plenty of time, just do like the man says and diversify. My rule is if you aren't completely comfortable, don't buy it. If anything you own bothers you get rid of it. Buy what you know and use yourself and read the prospectus on mutual funds to see how they invest. My bill will be calculated and sent to you shortly and thanks for your confidence.

hey everbody i dont put a lot of faith in the market,i payroll deduct weekly company matches 4% of what i gross it adds up, but i dont think about the risk you can borrow from yourself and you get 10% interest which adds up,been thinking of taking some more out just to put aside not in a bank either.

I'm not certain I understand what you meant by "taking some more out". If you are removing money from your 401K (other than through a loan) you have to declare it as income. It will be taxed at your current rate plus a 10% penalty assessed for removing it. I sure hope that isn't what you are doing.

yes taking it out as a loan the 10%interest you pay yourself sometimes is better than regular stock growth,as far as counting on it heavely, i dont before the market started going down it would go up and down now its all down,
There is usually a 1% or so administrative fee that you pay but you are correct, the rest is paying yourself the interest. Just don't be holding it when the market goes up or you might be loosing 15% returns to gain 10% interest.

There is a loophole available for taking money from a 401K prior to retirement age. It is called Substantially Equal Periodic Payments or SEPP (not to be confused with the other financial mechanism called a SEPP).
With a SEPP, you avoid the penalty. The rate is tied to one of several indexes and is locked in at the time you start taking the payments. You cannot change this once you start until you hit age 59 1/2.

I'm not doing this with mine but considered it once. If I ever find it necessary to tap my 401k prior to retirement age this is what I will do.
I'm aware of the SEPP but didn't think he was old enough to consider it. You can either lock in at a specific rate or use the index as you mentioned. Either way you are locked in as you said.

I guess my quetion is, since you don't want to lose money in the market (haven't met anybody that really does), are you just looking for a safer vehicle for your retirement funds, or do you need the money now?

if investing for the long term look for good bluechip stocks with high dividend yields that have been beaten down.
When the market is bullish is the time to speculate on small things, when it is bearish you buy the big companies on sale. high dividend yields also provide a cushion preventing them from dropping too much (so long as the dividend isn't cut).
In anycase, one the safest bets is betting world population continues to increase, which means we'll need more food, energy, and every other commodity.

You say you are not "big on saving a lot of money" and in the same sentence "just been trying to ready for retirement in 11 years."
Those two statements seem quite contradictory to me. :confused:
In order to move money around, why do you have to take it out of a taxed deferred plan? There are plenty of options of playing the market without pulling your money out.
Did you know that a young person who starts saving early (like right after college) at least 10% + max out any kind of employer match program (often 6% match) can be a millionaire by their mid-40s? Additional assumptions: average salary, historical rate of return, not buying personal property and consumables on credit...

just looking for a little more stability,not really counting on it just put into it.i had borrowed from for a bass boat,payment came out payroll duct,but its almost paid for thought about getting another loan from myself,10%interest is better than nothing and i wouldnt miss the payment.

Just joking - sort of - I think there is a balance between living for today and living for tomorrow.
The exact balance is different for different people.
I started off living for tomorrow with a passion and that WAS part of my journey and I did enjoy most of it. Now, I have balanced out (mellowed) quite a bit. But it is easier to live for today today because of what I did yesterday.
Anyway, IMO planning and preparing financially for tomorrow to a large extent is simply a matter of living below your means and paying yourself first.

Also - the philosophy of live for today let tomorrow take care of itself seems rather contrary to the concerns of a lot of folks on this board.
