Flooding in Iowa

Lately it has seemed like the rain would never stop around here. I spent a good portion of yesterday afternoon helping to fill sand bags around the water treatment plant in the town where I live, it looks like the water won't get up high enough here to put us out of fresh water, but in other places they haven't been so lucky. My town has basically become an island, we are cut off from the rest of the state on three sides and there is a 50/50 chance that the last road out will get flooded tonight or tomorrow. It really makes me rethink all of my emergency plans and what I would do should the need arise to bug out in a hurry. Here's an article about the flooding in Cedar Rapids, they seem to be getting the worst of it.

Our local mall has been opened as a shelter for people who have been displaced from their homes. I am working ambulance tonight and this combination of lots of people in a small space, stress, and a little bit of alcohol has made it a busy night for the cops here, and us. We have had to assist with several fights and even a guy that got so out of control that he had to be tazed. I feel really sorry for the people with families in that situation that are merely victims of not having an adequate plan in place and have been forced to be lumped into the shelter in a somewhat unsafe environment. I am glad I have a plan, and the equipment to pull it off with!
