Hello everyone, long time no see. Does anyone here have any experience with this revolver? Thinking about getting one for my daughter for a home defense weapon. Any info anyone can give would be appreciated. I'm looking for factual info from someone who owns one or knows someone that does. Thanks.

As for the revolver in question I do have some comment.

I considered purchasing one from a local dealer some time back. They are a knock off of a Colt in .38spl. The finish is rough parkerized. The trigger pulls are heavy and gritty. Even the SA pull was gritty. Those are the two main reasons I did not purchase one. They seem to be a durable product if you can stand the trigger pull. If your daughter has very strong hands she might be satisfied with one.

It is not on the top of my list but it is also not on the bottom. I have seen and handled much worse pistols. One step above a HiPoint, which is not a bad place to be since a HiPoint generally works

Fact is I recommended one to the son of a friend a few weeks back as a knock around gun instead of the Cobra Derringer he was considering.

Me personally, if I was trying to find a revolver for 3 Benjamins, I'd go for something like a S&W Model 10.

Or spend a bit more and maybe get a Ruger LCRx 3'' or Security Six.

Any particular reason you are searching for a revolver specifically? I'd never speak against the revolver for HD, but I do feel like there are better options.

All of those can be had for $300 or a bit more.

To me, my kids' safety is priceless, and I would spare no expense to get my daughter outfitted with a quality firearm and put her through a few training courses. Whatever firearm you do end up getting, don't forget your daughter needs to be VERY familiar with it to be safe for herself, and dangerous to those who would do her harm.

For $200-250 you can get a mossy 500 in 20ga. Simple and reliable. It has a wide range of task specific loads. It can also be used to put meat on the table. With the pistol grip it'd be <2 feet.

You can shoot 38 spl in a 357 but, you can't shoot 357 in a 38 spl only weapon. It gives you the option if you have a 357.

Talking to the OP,...Why limit your self?
You will spend $250 -300 bucks anyway....add $100 and give options and a better product.

Nothing wrong with a .38...many people have and shoot them.
I sometimes hunt with my .357....more power.

You can shoot .38's from a .357...not the other way around....

LCP first came out in .38 only......then a .357 version.....difference was about 2 oz.....empty.\
Had to wait for one to come in....guy suggested waited a bit for the .357
Money was about the same....sale price was $50 buck more for the .357 version.

Love it, good DA trigger, doesn't shoot like a snubbie.

My cop friends (retired) carried 9mm Beretta's....then went to a 10mm Glock....now talking about 9mm again.
Had not carried a .38 for many years.....nor do I know any the do for aduty weapon.
As I said...This is just my opinion.

KYRS thank you for a reply based in experience with the gun. No, they aren't as silky smooth as a colt or smith but then again I'm not going to spend 5 or 6 bills that I don't have just lying around on something that is likely to spend 99% of it's life on a closet shelf or in a drawer. The limited reviews ive found are favorable as far as function and accuracy. I've played with one at the gunshop and lock up was tight. Nope not the smoothest action felt but the only thing I really didn't like about it was the hammer spur machined as thin as it was but again, it's not going to see duty type use. The girl goes to school and works. I'll be lucky to get a couple of afternoons to work with her on whatever I get her. If she falls in love with shooting, great, maybe she will make more time for it. If not, at least she would have some protection that I truly hope she will never have to use.

As for all the opinions, I realize everyone is just trying to help and I can appreciate that. I've taught a lot of people to shoot well in duty shotgun and PPC courses. Revolvers are simple, reliable don't have much of a chance to stove pipe or have clear a misfire. 2" snubbies are a handfull and take more experience to get any accuracy. A 4" is a much better choice for a beginner or novice and still small enough to fit in a purse or backpack should she feel the need to take it with her somewhere. Shotguns are hands down the best defense weapon out there but take a lot more practice and awareness in close cramped quarters but the biggest reason I'm not considering one for her at this point, most women I've worked with don't like the recoil. If they don't like shooting it they won't. It's kinda hard to get someone proficient if they won't shoot it. If I were to get her a shotgun for the same money it would be an 870 express youth model in 20ga because in my opinion their is no better pump gun than an 870.

Hunter - as I am reading up on LCP and small non revolver guns - it turns out .357 small handguns are rare and exspensive. Ruger doesn't make anything other a .38 LCP.

So I did find a Coonan (http://www.coonaninc.com/product/357-magnum-compact-black/) that accepts .357 and is $2k and it won't work with .38...oh well.

.357 Magnum Compact is where I am searching.... and not finding much on a 1911 4" length. I did see a Micro Desert Eagle, but it appears to be 9mm.

I'm not 100% sure but I think Hunter was referring to the LCR (light, compact revolver) not the LCP (little compact pooper). If this is true then Ruger most certainly does make the LCR in a few different .357 magnum options.

As you have found there is not much in the semi-auto world for the .357 mag that is remotely affordable. There is always the .357 Sig, but you then lose any flexibility that allows you to shoot two different calibers, the very thing Hunter was championing.

I tracked down an LCR back in 2009 when they were still tough to find. Its been my CCW since then until very recently when I switched to a subcompact 9mm. It never bothered me either to have it in .38 special only. If I want .357 I'll carry one of my .357's...

When my late wife got her CCW I bought her a 2" .357 for one reason. If she ever had to buy ammo, and I was not around, any 38spl she bought would be safe to shoot in that particular revolver. I repetitiously pounded it into her memory that she was not to buy .357 ammo even though the gun said .357. All the effort was a waste after I let her fire a full charge .357 from the pistol. "OK no .357 shooting from this one!" was her reply after one shot and that was that.

The .357 capability was a safety buffer.

I guess I am the exception to the Wilderness Survival standard. I really like the .38spl as a cartridge and I have a bunch of them. One reason is that most folks do prefer the .357 chambering in almost the same platforms so I get some real good deals on .38 spls, both in the past as whole American police departments replaced their revolvers with auto-pistols, and more recently as the other nations around the world did the same.

Training and safe handling from beginners is much easier when using a revolver. Swing out the cylinder and it is either empty or loaded at a glance. If the hammer is back it is about to go boom! If the hammer is down it is "safe" so keep your finger off the trigger and don't point it at anything you don't intend to shoot.

WOO, your search for your inexpensive compact semiauto .357 is a whole other thread. Primarily because an inexpensive .357 semiauto has never been produced. Not one that worked anyway. Your desire is the reason the .40 S&W exists.

Guys, ya'll are way over thinking this. This is a soon to be 20yr old (don't even start with the "not legal" stuff. Better to be judged by twelve than carried by 6) 5'6" 120lb girl who's dance card is full with school and work. If she can give me enough time to become proficient with and likes it, my SCCY 9mm is hers. The whole reason for all of this, her "mother" took off to shack up with some swingin Bill. Grandparents are keeping the lights and heat on and I'm keeping the fridge and pantry full so she can save what she makes me keep going to school. I'm not giving her an auto without knowing she can handle what hiccups are possible with one. My whole reason for a revolver. If I had one that wasn't a single action she would already have it and this post wouldn't exist. A few moths back I almost bought a 5" .44 target model bulldog but opted for an HR .20ga for my grandson instead. Now I'm wishing I had got the bulldog cause it would be perfect. She doesn't need fancy or high capacity. She needs reliable, quick to learn, be proficient with and ample stopping power. A 4" .38 full of 158gr hollow points fits this bill.

That is quite true!

And after going back and reading the OP I do not know how one could make a query any more specific.

I think it is one of the principles of the internet and human behavior to jump into a thread 15-20 posts in, read one post at the end, without reading the entire thread, and decide you know exactly what the OP needs, wants and absolutely must do based on their own experiences or those of the last You-tube video they saw.

Fact is that I have a strong affection for these less expensive but durable firearms which I often refer to as "mid level revolvers". When I first started recreational pistol shooting I had a M39 S&W and came across a German made middle of the road double action revolver called a Titan Tiger (they are still around) which sold for $50 (1968 price, you could buy a new S&W for $75 which was a weeks pay).

I soon realized that the M39 was a fine gun, but it threw those little 9mm cases all over creation and I was spending more time hunting for the empties than shooting them. That Titan Tiger retained the cases for reloading, shot very straight and I did not have to worry about scratching it up or any special care.

I wore out my first set of 38 spl reloading dies using that Titan Tiger, before I finally bought my first S&W M10. The dies were from Herters ($10 a set) and I still have the Lyman mold blocks I used to cast the slugs. By the time I had traded the Tiger the M39 had been long gone, traded for a Colt Combat Commander in satin nickel, which I wish I had back. It is one of the more valuable old school Colts.

Those experiences are one of the reasons why I do not hesitate to recommend some of the "mid level" revolvers as first guns for folks. I still have a lot of Rossi, Taurus, RIA and various Turkish made products in the rack. There are some good guns out there, especially when those folks telling you to "save a little more money and by a S&W" do not seem to realize that most of the S&W products are priced out of the range of the average student or entry level worker, and some of their grandparents.

I have that very revolver, had it for a few years now. Though not pretty it functions well and is accurate. The only drawback is that it will not handle plus P ammo. That said a good wad cutter or semi wad cutter will be plenty for self defense. If I had a young woman or newbie shooter looking for a pistol then I would recommend the Armscor M200.
