Strange Raffle ???

At a DU Committee meeting middle of December.....bought a raffle ticket from one of the guys.....his boy was selling tickets for a Veterans Motor cycle group....12 Guns of Christmas.
I buy a lot of raffle tickets.

Right after New Years, got a cryptic voice mail from a guy named "Joe" telling me I had won a gun and that he would get back to me.....and left a number.
Called the number back...no answer so left a message.

Several days go by....nothing...left another message.......
Several more days go by....He calls me back...telling me that I need to call "Eric at the gun store for details of pick-up and such.
The following morning, called the gun store....in Illinois....and I am in Wisconsin.....Can you see a problem coming here?
Guys say yeah, we need to work out details (duh)....and says he will call me back.

So waited till this morning...been about 2 weeks....Called the gun store back.
Guy says "Well we have a probem with inventory...we don't have the gun you won"

So, Now what?
Guy says I can get a instore credit for $450 bucks.

Now I don't know what the deal is, what good does a store credit in a store that I can't buy any thing in?

At this point I'm kinda wondering if I really wanted to "Win" ....

I should mention at this point he never mentioned that we still may have a problem with transfers to Wisconsin
(I have my "Guy w/FFL")

The he asked what I would substitute, for the Taurus 65 .357 that I won that he can't get(?)

So decided that the New Ruger Single 7 in .327 Federal SS 7-1/2 barrel may be an option.
Says he can order it....
But I need to kick in with a $100....(yeah, well I guess)

We will see....If this come to pass......
LOL...Sometimes, when you Win,..... you lose.
But how much fun can you have for $20 bucks

The seller of the ticket is the son of our DU Committee leader....known and worked with him for 30 years.
If I get screwed....(which at this point I believe I am) he will know that an unhappy member is gonna bad mouth any raffle his boy is involved with.

I don't know where my ticket stub is.....like I said, I buy a lot of tickets.....so at this point all I have to lose, is my $20 bucks worth...
I can be a crabby, loud, cantankerous old Geezer.....

In my part of the country the Taurus 65 has been impossible to get for months. Sounds like this dealer made a donation of something he had in the display and then sold it not knowing he could not replace it. Bird in the hand type thing.

And the retail price for a full sized 65 w/adjustable sights in stainless steel is only about $150 lower than the Ruger .327, except you can not find the Taurus for love or money.

I would have my dealer get an FFL copy in their hands, then run down to IL and point to what I wanted from their display. They are going to push lowest wholesale against highest retail over the phone and everyone knows it.

But that is me and I have been known to drive half way across KY for a good deal, and KY is nearly 800 miles one end to the other!

No this was a legit raffle, benefits going to a Vets group..... tickets from by our DU committee leader's kid....
I'm thinking they don't really sell many tickets in Wisconsin...so kinda got caught without a way to handle interstate transfer.

Talked to "My Guy" and will be going for a ride....about 20 miles down accross the border, to the gun store...maybe tomorrow...for a face to face.

The model 65 is selling new for $400-$450 depending on barrel length and there are blue steel and stainless models.

Hold out for something of equal value!

Store guy is kinda in the middle....Although I don't really understand the "Out of stock? on the Taurus.

Just seems like the details of the raffle wasn't worked out so much.
Lots of work, planning and oversite goes into raffles for non-profit groups...

Being Ducks Unlimited Committee volunteer for 25+ years...we are already working on the details of out March Dinner Fundraiser.
The December planning meeting was where I bought the ticket.

Just don't let them push any two shot derringers or Raven .25 automatics on you and you should show a profit.

And $450 store credit might snag you a nice used rife or shotgun as well as the possible pistol.

He is shipping to my FFL guy.. I will pick it up from him..........so should be a day or two....

Our committee has been trying to put out different firearms in our raffles at the Duck Unlimited Events rather than the normal rifles and shotguns.

THis wasn't one of ours but will see if the .32 Mag might be a possibility for a dinner prize.

Nice score! I really enjoy my Single 7, had it on my hip yesterday when I went beach combing. For $120 I'd say you came out way ahead. If you reload, try Rim Rock bullets, they are quite accurate in my gun. Hope you enjoy it!

Got it picked up, and headed out to Gander Mountain for some ammo....Closest other than Walmart...

Looked at all sorts on calibers....including .32 S&W, 32 long......and 32 H&R.....No .327 fed mag...

Had to wait a while (not many guys working)and I asked the counter guy....

He and rolled his eyes......leads me over to the .38/.357 Mags.....many brands, bullet weights....Says "Right here....
I said ..."No. ....I was looking for 327 Federal mag"...

He says. "What?....Well, what ever we have.... is right here."

Hell of a place to start a gun store.....Sheesh...

Seems I need to order some.....

Yeah, it's not a cartridge you can count on anybody to stock. It's not rare though. You shouldn't have any trouble ordering it online for a decent price.

I had a similar experience when looking for some .32 S&W long. The [new] guy handed me a box of 32 auto. That one though they promised to order whether I bought any or not, figuring there are enough old wheel guns chambered for it to justify keeping a few boxes around and still don't have any over 2 months later. And I have a deadline for an internet purchase ban to contend with.

I had to replace a section of drainage field line courtesy of the phone company. I went to Home Depot and asked where they keep the four inch schedule 30? He shows me four inch schedule 40. When I said that's not schedule 30, he looks at me like I don't know. I finally found it myself.

If you really can't wait to shoot your new gun, but can't find any of the other .32's, the .32 ACP will work in the Single 7, I've done it. Being a single action there are no extraction issues.

I have some .32 S&W and .32 H&R mag....as I was shooting them in the Nagant M1895 7 shot revolver until I found the proper ammo for it.
Shot OK, but cases are slightly smaller, so they expand when fired.

You are partially correct, the .32 acp is actually considered semi-rimmed, so its just enough to function in a single action. If put into a double action the extractor star would likely not catch the tiny rim.

I have a convertible Ruger Blackhawk.....45lc and .45acp....need to change the cylinder as the inside was a ridge to catch the case behind the bullet of the apc....and .45lc won't fit that cylinder.

Ordered 200 rds from Midway.......327 mag.

I don't have a DA .327, so I wasn't sure, just erring on the side of caution. The cases do bulge a bit because of the slightly smaller diameter. Similar to a .22lr being fired in a .22 WMR chamber.

What brand mold do you have? I've been kicking around the idea of casting for the .32. The only casting I do is conical bullets for my Old Army. I do have a small melting pot and about 15 pounds of lead.

I have carried that SS, my favorite pack piece, but either carried in a pack or a covered cavalry style holster.......so protected it from a lot of wear and tear.
Usually never carried on belt...mostly CCW.
There may or may not be, a few more around not pictured....LOL.....mostly "deployed"....

Gonna have to look for a couple of more holsters.
Did find one that was new that is long enough for the 7-1/2 barrel..... but the leather is really stiff.(?)...wonder about lanolin ?

I use Lee Aluminum molds as they come WITH the handles for less than a RCBS steel mold with out handles.

Pour for .44mag,... .210gr and .240gr.....45lc (have to look at which molds), .38/.357 ....158.....200 gr.
The .45 cal Old Army has both round and conical, as does several or the muzzle loader molds.

So looks like I gonna be needing a .couple of the .32 (+/-) molds for this.
Need to look at dies as well....but check out the .32/20 die set?

The slugs fall out of the mold at .314 and hold plenty of lube. They might be .001 over bore but they do not produce excessive leading. Accuracy has been good and it makes a beautiful bullet.

I set it up in a Bridgeport mill and brushed off the gas check stepdown many years ago. It falls out right at 100 grains. Being a little undersized it does not shoot as accurately in the revolvers as it should. It does make a good bullet for shooting out of the 30 caliber cartridge adapters in rifles of .308 bore.

I am sure the Lee dies will work fine. I am using an old RCBS die set due to buying it before Lee started making reloading dies. Yep I have had that set a long time.

Yea, all you guys have got me constantly fighting off the urge to buy a .327. I don't need one, that's for sure. In fact I can not think of any reason anyone would need a .327 except for saying they had one.

Ruger chambered the Blackhawk in 30 carbine and it was a fantastic flop! Put a rim around the same case, put it in the Single Six and it is the new hot toy.

I am also fighting off buying a .300 winmag too, and for the same reason. I just absolutely do not need one. Then after I buy one I will have to get another because one is none and two is one.

Of course there are some that would say one AR is enough, or one .308, or that no one needs a half dozen .38 specials.

I might as well start hunting for a good deal. It's a hopeless cause.

For quite a while now our Ducks Unlimited Committee, has been trying to offer something different for the gun boards, we have 4 @ 4 gun each).

One can have a lot of DU Dinner shotguns and rifles, for main prizes...but everyone has those over the years
Now the gun boards, we spend about $2000 per board and offer AR's, Coach guns ML, pistols, maybe a Pink Pistol or two....and one year a in-line electronic ignition Muzzle loader (shudder).

The income per board increased with the addition of New and Different items.
We generally double or triple our money...

Each board has one real nice expensive gun....than kinda goes down a bit....
First picked ticket get fist choice....and so on..

That way, we end up with prizes we wouldn't go out, spend $600 bucks to buy....but will buy a $100 bucks worth of tickets....

This pistol was one of those......I was able to pick it out.

Do I need it, not really....Do I want it, well maybe not the first pick on a list....Will I by a ticket for $20 bucks....Sure will....LOL.
Actually this prize was supposed to be a Taurus 65 in .357..But the store didn't have it(?)

BTW the Weatherby Vanguard in .300 wsm ......was a door prize from Wisconsin Wildlife Federation...LOL

Have been working with a real stiff holster that I got for a bargain bin....Think it was for a Army Colt cap and ball.....
But was long enough for the 7-1/2 barrel on the Ruger.

Been wiping, soaking and rubbing it down with neats-foot oil....and is getting to be a prefect fit.......
