Spring Repairs

Thus winter has not been severe but it has sure kicked butt on damage to the house.

A pretty day today lured me outside but the ground is so mushy I can not walk across the lawn.

I have spent the morning repairing a damaged door and roaming around tightening and hammering trying to get things good enough to survive until the ground will allow me to do what really needs done.

Yeah, mostly small repairs and clean up......
Did have a project yesterday.....But was in the house.

Front window has vertical blinds....dogs like looking out the window....so broke a little plastic fitting the hangs the panel and opens and closes.....So when closed one hole that they both crowd to see out of.
DW called the company....then sent 3 of these fittings.....

So It was like, "Dear, can you just put this plastic thing on the blinds real quick?.........YEAH RIGHT!....LOL

You have to take it down....unhook each fitting and panel till you get to the center.....couldn't be on the end....the exact middle of an 8ft track.

So, looking at it, only 1/2 of the plastic clip the hangs it broke off.....Hummmmm.

Had to go to garage get step small ladder....to the basement to get battery drill, find a small machine bolt and nut...(2 because you always drop one, a couple of bits.....plastic clip 1" high, by 1/2" wide......not much room for error.

Drill first hole on broken piece....made sure bolt fit....the vice gripped it to the other piece to make sure they both lined up.
Drilled second hole.
Found a hole puncher and punched out a bigger hole to fit the bolt in the blind.....Bingo!

Confidence was low.....but the good news was even if I broke it.....I would have just had to take it all apart anyway.

Works like new........Ever see those e-mails on :"There I fixed it"......Yeah,..... well, half of them are mine.......

But tools and materials were in 4 different places, just to drill one hole......
Not sure if time wise I finished ahead of the game or not.

Gonna start thunder storming, out side, soon....so putting off outside stuff as well.

Well, no grass yet.....
The mower or the snow blower sit in front of DW car....so what ever is in season, is staged by the door.....Snow blower still there by the door....LOL

Oh I have neighbors mowing already. Had one neighbor out mowing, wearing a parka, with snow blowing sideways a couple of weeks ago. Some people are crazier than a sack of bats!

I wound up tightening a couple of screws that turned into a half day of work and it will be even more as soon as I get a couple of dry days in a row! Wood at the base of the door had rotted out. I got into that and you know what happens next. Water damage!

I am now looking at repairing the entire still plate and a couple of feet on each side, along with a new door casement.

Not raining yet, but did get the doggie's bathroom cleaned before the rain.

I haven't done anything outdoors yet, although a few plans are in the mix. Grass is starting to need the first mowing which will probably happen this weekend. I also need to clean up the rock/flower beds and purchase a new grill. Rebuilding the fire pit has also been a thought, but we will see what happens. Oh yeah, an enclosure for the garbage cans to keep the HOA Nazi's at bay is also in the works!

Ugh... It never ends!

Snowing here. Yay. Although I really do need to replace the blinds on my door window. Thinking about just going with a red and white gingham curtain to match the others in my kitchen.

Lol. HOA community was wife's idea, not mine. Although she now sees alot of the stupidity in it. As far as peeing goes, well, my son has peed in the front yard on more than one occasion. No letters yet!

It was still light out tonight when I got home from work.
Wandered around the yard kicking things and checking out the rodent damage mostly. Yard is a mess. Not a cold enough winter to keep the varmints hibernating. Apparently they got hungry and got into all kinds of things. I'm kinda curious about the one who thinks putting acorns in the sump outlet pipe is a good idea. Quite a stack in the stone pit just below there. They get blown out when the thing goes off every minute or so. Time to set the traps.
Still laid up though from some stupidity last week. Not gonna get much in the way of heavy repairs done.

I might get finished with the door repair by tomorrow night.

So 4 days and $250 latter I finish what started as tightening three screws in the door hinge!
