funny story. i was at a walmart one night a couple years ago for other reasons and decided to ask one of the employees in the sporting goods what they carry in .22lr. the guy looked at me real strangely and said, nothing till daylight, and then threatened to call the police on me.

You are bound to get a wide variety of answers just as I would if I asked different folks what it's like to live in the UK. Some will tell you it's the best and others will tell you it's the worst. Remember that a person's socio-economic position and, often, their religion, ethnicity and sometimes gender has a bearing on their view. All are valid responses based on their life experience.

Personally, I can't imagine a better place to live. If I could, I'd live there!

lol. Sam Walton has been dead for a long time. The board of directors at Wal-Mart sold their collective soul to Satan shortly there after and have been churning along leaving people in it's wake for quite some time. And it has nothing to with them "doing what everyone else is striving to do". It has to do with ethics in business and how they treat their fellow man. Just ask Debbie Shank. Do you think Wal-Mart dropped that lawsuit because they felt bad? No, hardly, or they would never have done it in the first place. They did it because people started boycotting their store.

We had a discussion on corporations and ethics on a different thread, and you were an advocate for "good corporations". Wal Mart is the type of corporation that makes my argument for me. Microsoft, too. I'm not sure how you can say Gates was successful at fulfilling the American Dream, when every piece of code they've ever released has been ripped off from some other entrepeneur trying to make it. Some guy busts his @$$ to get ahead and a corporation with more money comes along and steps on him...

"Hey, that looks pretty cool. Let's take it! oooh, look we can make lots of money on this..."

Being a positive person who advocates for other people to live that way, and someone who liked to be informed, I honestly thought you would have a different opinion of Wal-Mart.

Alpine - I absolutely support ethical businesses (small or large). I don't think there is any other way to operate.

All I was saying is we tend to make villains out of men and women that are hugely successful. I wasn't referencing the corporation or what kind of community citizen they are.

I have no idea where Gates got his code. I've read stories but I also know he started out in his garage. Was there a fifth Beetle? Who knows. When I signed on with my company anything I patented was theirs. I signed the agreement and I assume Microbucks is the same way.

Wal Mart can only be successful if folks shop there. And they seem to do that a lot. I don't go in there very often but every time I do the parking lot is full and so is the store.

I can buy ammo I don't reload at Wally's for less than I can anywhere else. For bulk ammo several of us buy cases and split it up. I have heard Wally is the largest employer in WV. I never worked in retail, don't invest in it, but I don't hear their employees complain that much. We ain't exactly a rich state so you have to take what you can. They are non-union and I belonged to one all my working life. What little I buy there I get because of convenience. You gotta eat so you work, don't matter where.

Not saying this to insult any ones intelligence but u do realize that most new credit card scanners have a small camera in them behind the glass that takes a picture of u right. Walmart doesn't have 2 say hey stand right here while i take your picture they have cameras everywhere and only need your permission 2 take a photo if it is going to be used for monetary gains like to use it in a commercial.

Sgt - Firstest. I'd like to see a resource. I can't find a reference for cameras and card readers. Secondest, they can't use your image without your consent. In the case of a child, it requires the consent of the parent or legal guardian.

One of the four common-law privacy torts forbids “appropriation.” Specifically: “One who appropriates to his own use or benefit the name of likeness of another is subject to liability to the other for an invasion of his privacy.” (Restatement (Second) of Torts Section 652C)

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. Facebook is crazy bad for doing it. What I am saying is you can pursue legal recourse if you can prove it occurred. The thing you have to be very very cautious of is when you automatically check mark the "Terms of Use" you may be overlooking the fact that you just consented to allowing your image to be used for just that.

The real problem in this type of case is proving damages. If you can't prove damages have occurred then about the best you'll be able to do is stop future use.

Rick every time u walk into a store your image is taken these tapes are reviewed and stored for security reasons. Your getting wrapped around wording they are not using your picture for anything there are storing it without intent of malice for security reasons. Just like when u walk up to an atm your smiling face gets photographed.

I don't have a problem with that. I agree. What I was responding to was your reference to the camera behind the CC scanner and the fact that Wal Mart can use your likeness without your consent in advertising. They can't. From your link:

I wasn't challenging you. I was actually trying to lean something. If there was a camera there I wanted to know about it. Our images are captured all day long I don't care where you live. If it isn't a security cam then it's a satellite. I don't know where that imaginary line is between providing us security and imposing on our freedom but I sure do like it when those cameras are used to catch the bad guys or rescue a little kid.

Cameras are everywhere and you would have to dig a hole and crawl in it to hide from them. We don't have it as bad as England. Cameras everywhere, no carry on firearms anyway, not even a pocketknife unless you can explain the reason you have a little 2" blade. These cameras are just the tip of the "Big Brother" bit, my opinion only. Just another example of a good thing being abused.

Well, personally I gave up on striving to do what those fellas did around the age of 15 I think, but I always like to recall when your federal govt was after Gates for monopolizing Internet search engines and they came down with a judgement that they were going to fine him a million bucks a day for turning out IE for free with Windows. Gates said, "OK" and kept right on trucking. I kind of liked that.

You have to show your firearms license to buy ammo here. There's an old fella lives back in the bush not far from here who's hunted to support his family all his life. I mean they really depend on that deer meat that Poppa brings home. He's never had no steenking license. Last fall someone mysteriously gifted him a box of .30-30 ammo.
