Creating a Balearic Sling

I have become fascinated with the sling ever since I saw a very good slinger named Luis Pons Livermore sling for the first time. I saw him on TV actually during a history channel episode of proving if David the slinger could really kill Goliath in the Biblical tale.

So why did the sling go away? Well primarily because the bow and arrow outdid it. Slings are cheaper to make however but require a lot more training to become proficient in combat. That's pretty much where the line was drawn. However slings have been used side by side in combat with the bow for thousands of years, and are still used to this day for competition and hunting (especially is south and central america).

So weaving a sling takes patience and it's not really something that can be thrown down on a forum. It takes hands on. But you can get an idea of what it takes from these three videos.

He is making a Balearic Sling (woven split pouch) and he is a Balearic sling maker on none other than the Balearic Islands. My personal sling of choice and slinging style. They are made of sisal agave hard grasses also known over there as Pita, with leather sewn on where it needs to be for maximum protection and flexibility.
