Hello Fellow Survivalists. My nickname is Cheetah Kat because I'm strong and opinionated. I'd like to be as prepared as our group can be, so I'll be visiting often and asking a lot of questions, so be PREPARED! I used to think doomsday preppers as over-the-top, but not anymore. I'm concerned about our economic system as well as my region's tendency for subduction zone earthquakes. My career in writing (psychological thriller writing) also involves much coursework and research as well as a degree regarding vast areas of topics such as psychology, crime-related topics, criminal profiling, firearms, personal security issues, and the criminal mind therefore learning comes easy for me, and I need to absorb as much knowledge as I'm able as the group leader. I'm also vetting others who want to join the group, but they must be trustworthy as I'll do a criminal background check et al and they must bring their own required list of supplies as well as have requisite knowledge/abilities needed for wilderness survival. I hope to be a human sponge absorbing everything members can offer and reciprocate in return.

My Level of Experience - Intermediate

My Interests and Hobbies - Gardening, urban survival preparation, food storage, backpacking, transportation pedestrian vehicles to carry food and supplies. My guard dog, concealed weapons permit, reading textbooks for leisure of above interests, high IQ, novel creativity for thinking out of the box, learning about easy building of lean-to tree house secured against enemy invasion, but I don't know about tree house foundation structure, although researching best trees for this purpose.

If the NSA or other types really want to know about you, then they already do. Heck - as a moderator I can see your IP address (they can see much, much more) and know that I used to live a couple of miles from where you are now about 30 years ago.

A lot of good info can be found here, CK, just be prepared for some ridicule if you don't take the time to perform some basic research. Many topics have been covered here before and some members have little patience for repeating those same discussions. A lot of like-minded folks here that do share many of your concerns. Well, I guess this is why I'm here. I need to find information about real survival techniques although I've been doing location research by going to the different areas I think might be suitable places which are not from a book. I hope I find all I need to survive in this forum.

I guess from what I read from a few individuals above, this isn't the place for questions covered repeatedly before as this becomes cumbersome for impatient members. I don't understand the need to know whether someone is a beginner, intermediate et al in the introduction form if this is a place not for beginners or intermmediates. In another reply I was mentioned as being book learned, if I'm correct, but in another one mentioned research into the basics, so I'm assuming that if not finding the basics in a book, then I must find it online and I thought that was what I was doing. Maybe I should go elsewhere to get out of the box and return when I've learned the basics. I was just hoping to save my family when the **** hits the fan and we need to bug out. Good luck in all your endeavors...

Stay or go - it's entirely up to you.

As far as not understanding the suggestions on the template regarding experience......it maters (IMO) for two reasons. First - if a member signs up and starts giving advice on - let's say - wild edible plants - it would be nice to know if the individual had any experience in that arena. Second - membership experience varies from never been in the woods to been there all my life. In answering questions from members it is helpful to know the experience level so that answers can be tailored to be meaningful to that individual.

Welcome to the forums.

Kat one suggestion. If you want to be done with the path your introduction has gone.. Leave it alone and ignore it. Move on and continue your participation by posting questions and adding your experiences as you can.

Have a thick skin when we ask for a bit more information. There is nothing more annoying then to spend 45 minutes posting an answer to a question only to find out they already knew that. More information gives the chance to build on what you know instead of starting all over at the beginning.

Don't be offended when you get a response to a question that includes a link to a previous discussion. I find my questions are not as original as i had thought. Many subjects have been covered multiple times. Your question may have already been covered. Many times I have read a link that I was directed to, the links have provided me with additional knowledge and I was able to continue the original discussion with more questions.

Kat, Howdy and welcome aboard. You said you were victimized twice in your own home by your neighbors, and have a mentally ill stalker ? is there a reason you do not consider a firearm? If I'm not mistaken Washington state is an open carry state. A guard dog is a good Idea but can fail against multiple attackers, You still have to know how to protect yourself!!!!

In your original post , I never saw mention of your skills, such as how many ways can you build a fire, how many was can you treat and filter drinking water, do you can your own food, do you garden, can or do you hunt, etc etc. these are things that tell us what we can do to help you to make suggestions or to point you to a previous post.

Take this next comment with a grain of salt, If you were offended or hurt by some of the replies here, I hate to think what you would be like with your group if someone was a smart @ss, or made a comment you didn't like. Don't take anything here personal, no one here is really that bad. I'm glad you decided to stay. Enjoy the forums, ask questions, but be prepared to not like some of the answers you get, its gonna happen.

If you want to learn a lot, however, you've come to the right place. I am a newbie as well! Just remember as greenhorns we have to take a little razzing from the group. Really? Who said a leader was the most experienced?

Leaders are rarely the experts. Leaders are the ones who can find an expert or two and utilize that expertise economically for the benefit of themselves and others. A leader is a facilitator. An engineer of interpersonal dynamics.

Experts, by and large, are arrogant pr$cks.

My observations of this clusterflop (that's the word they replaced the other with in "Heartbreak Ridge" w/Clint Eastwood) of an intro are these.

-We (WSF) attack the information we are given.
-We are over skeptical.
-We have a pretty close knit group. That causes a certain amount of exclusion of others.

Kat- Best of luck in your endeavors. Welcome to WSF. I have family down there. Nowhere close to Seattle though, that area has so many risk factors as to make it untenable for a long term survival locale , IMO. Most of my family are there and I'm not happy about it.

Kevin, I respect what you're saying and I'll answer it this way: "No, it wasn't," nor was there any intention of giving one. Like you I also read the thread including Kat's request for "account deletion." Why was that request made? Because the OP didn't like the answers to the questions asked. "Survival" is NOT a game, it's a matter of life and death. In an earlier response someone mentioned needing a "thick skin" if you are going to be a "survivor." I didn't see one. So I re-read the original post and noticed some bizarre things inserted in it and called attention to them; specifically:

Calling themselves "Cheetah" because they were "opinionated."

Stating that they had a "high IQ."

Declaring themselves a "leader" of a group that they had not yet started. The only qualifications given were not enough, in MY "opinionated" opinion to justify that conclusion.

The ambiguous remark/question about "trees" being used in defense against some enemy. (?????)

Thank you welderguy for your welcome. I have a .38 snubby, no safety with JHP with intentions to double tap. I have a concealed weapons permit although hiding a .38 is a feat unto itself. LOL I addressed my skills perhaps in one of the replies. I guess I come from a cooperation POV; it saves time to do integral tasks needing to be done in a group setting. I intended to work as a foreign service officer b.g. in Israel for the State Dept. re proper protocol. The old quote still stand...one can get more with honey than with vinegar. We can still make our points, but do so in an appropriate manner so that the recipient of the communication focuses on the information than the delivery. Just me...

MammaBear - Thank you for the welcoming. Not interested in warm and fuzzy only information delivered as quickly as possible. What is the point of razzing? It wastes time and turns-off individuals. I'm not interested in individuals who endeavors to outdo "comments" of another individual. I thought the forum is for integral information, not a stand up comedy routine or a dressing down as if in the '. Just a sidebar to all -- Most were welcoming, but the comments and replies seems like a waste of time where the focus was more on "razzing" than information. IMHO some of the responses remind me of my college days where fraternities hazed prospective members. I just think it's pointless... I'm more interested in information than an intent to outdo one another. Yes, I'm frank in replies especially if it's pointless. I've grown as an individual when I faced challenges and am now thankful for them. Going to the rest of the board as one member suggested. I like MomaBear. I think the most fierce face down is a MomaBear who doesn't mess around. LOL

The forum is a social medium just like any other social setting. To think that a group would sit around a campfire and only offer static information is a little short sighted. The intent of any social setting is to interact and that means conveying information, humor, ideas, soundboarding, asking questions and yes, even razzing.

:FRlol: ha ha which is hilarious because I'm not even 5'4" and less than 120 pounds. Razzing does have a purpose - it weeds out those who are not serious. If you study sociology or cultural anthropology at all, you'll see that social groups since the dawn of time have engaged in some sort of initiation to test the mettle of new members. There is a lot of good info on this board but it's also a social avenue as well. Just take the info you want and leave the rest :)

Kat, your responses to the posts of others and what you state about yourself helps others on here to access your psychological side. I see you as a self declared leader of a group that you would highly endanger. I would not be surprised to hear of deaths within the group should you continue on this course. You have no "give" in you. As a leader of a group apart from the safety offered by society you could quickly turn into a despot. Leaders need to be chosen by the group, not "self-declared" by the individual that came up with the idea." Even better is a "committee." Each member would have certain skills, duties, and responsibilities within the group. One person could be chosen as a "tie-breaker" in case of a decision deadlock, but that would be it. I really don't care if you like me or not. I would never consider anything as unstable as what you've described. Again, good luck with that. If you view this post as "razzing" then that's just another indicator of an inner problem.....:cowboy:

I find some of the members most welcoming, but the others? I'd diagnose them as having Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I'm also wondering if said individuals know how to read? Much of information I stated regarding myself is in the comments if only they read them before asking the same questions over and over. Assumptions made about the "leadership" designation is really off the mark and indicates a brain closed regarding other options available; such as I've already have a group formed and the "leadership" position was voted upon. A smart leader delegates, a smart leader listens to others who have the information that a leader may not have, a smart leader does his or her best gives disabled members of our group tasks they can complete, expertise others might not have.

Regarding the tree against the enemy. I'll swing it at them because of my IQ... Obviously I'm not serious (trying to be a social member and razz my azz off). Reread the comments as I'm getting "impatient" when the same questions are asked over and over again I've already answered. Instead of rereading, these specific individuals seem to be working for the next comedy spot to outdo the other or thinking of a "witty" reply instead of reading. Many who attack I must wonder their motivation. With my criminal profiling research (and of course I'm not referring certain individuals are of the criminal variety) which requires much forensic, criminal, and abnormal psychology, much of what one does or says starts with motivations. Be it far from me to opine the following, but some may have jealousy issues and must knock down anyone who doesn't take the position of a door mat. I find some of the members most welcoming, but the others? I'd diagnose them as having Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I'm also wondering if said individuals know how to read? Much of information I stated regarding myself is in the comments if only they read them before asking the same questions over and over. Assumptions made about the "leadership" designation is really off the mark and indicates a brain closed regarding other options available; such as I've already have a group formed and the "leadership" position was voted upon. A smart leader delegates, a smart leader listens to others who have the information that a leader may not have, a smart leader does his or her best gives disabled members of our group tasks they can complete, expertise others might not have.

As much as this been quite fun, the Introduction thread is a distraction for me, so I won't engage any more on this thread. I don't have much time and even though I'm only an Immediate level of knowledge, I'm the only one of our group who is higher in knowledge than they (most are disabled like I). It's just a fact. I'm not attempting to glorify myself. I just have some abilities in which I engage before the disabilities hit.

I only mentioned the IQ as I have to balance the cons against the pros, and since I don't have the physicality required to be a team leader, I need to balance that with abilities I do have. I've had to research quite a bit in my professional life, so I do know how to research, do so in the most directed and efficient manner possible. Only reason mentioning IQ. Not meant to imply I'm better than anyone. If I had to place a bet on who would win in a form of martial arts, I'd be face down in a second. I mention it only to rely on the things which are my strengths, my mind, since my body is ***t.

If the Introduction section to razz is a usual type of vetting an individual, then it feels like the Spanish Inquisition and I on the opposite side of the Crusades. It's not that I'm game. It's just not the direction I want to spend a lot of time on even though it's described as socialization and razzing. I'm opting out. It's just not my "thing" as writers tend to be reclusive already.

Or if we have enough time before some kind of "disaster" we as a predominantly disabled group can learn to survive in the wood. It looks like it would be difficult. I've a area in mind and need some honest reply to our chosen location. It's a rain forest in national park where there are few other folks to contend with and up in the foothills of a mountain range. Cold would be a factor during Winter. I did a search on disability and only found one post which was quite heartbreaking.

If I'm understanding your question correctly welderguy, I work twelve hours a day, six days a week, with a forced one day off, Sunday. I'd work even then because I absolutely love my job, but I knew I'd eventually burn out (haven't in ten years). I get up a four am and "punch out" at 4pm. I have dinner at 4pm (microwave only, yum), then hit the sack at six pm. Cuz of my Fibro and PTSD, I require nine to ten hours of sleep. I think that adds up to twenty-four. I've insomnia a lot so I'm online at weird hours for a time, then hit the sack again, hoping for a few more. I know twelve hours a day is a bit much, but if I have a "down day" it will still add up to forty plus hours a week. I have to compete with "normal" peeps and keep up with them, or no one is going to believe a disabled gal can carry a series. I need to prove them wrong. A lot of stigma against disabled folks, especially those with PTSD. Not a wah wah, just a fact of life.

Whether that be with friends, relatives or your own place that you've set up ahead of time.

A relative lives in the boonies who is a general contractor who can be in charge of a bunker. They live on a lake, but it still considered not as isolated as we'd like. We have many firearms and ammo for those who are quite efficient.

You have a number of challenges in your area that many of us don't face. A couple would certain require leaving home. A tsunami and Mt. Ranier both come to mind. Pyroclastic flows, snow melt flooding and eruption are all possibilities that should be considered in your planning.
